How We Met

The Invisible String

In 2018, after our parents and their friends were hanging out, I received a Facebook message from none other than Andy's dad, suggesting I "hit his son up" and he gave me Andy’s cell number. Our parents and their friends plotting to play matchmaker made me giggle, but I was curious enough to give it a shot. We went on a few dates and became good friends. We enjoyed each other's company, shared laughs, and even made what we call “fake” fettuccine alfredo. But life had its own plans, and with me still in college and focused on my studies, we eventually went our separate ways. Years passed, and though our lives took different paths, we never lost touch. We would occasionally check in on each other, sending well wishes and staying connected despite the miles and milestones between us. Fast forward to October 2023, when fate decided it was time to tug on that invisible string a little harder. We met up with some friends at Time Out Bar #2 to watch an Astros game. What started as a casual catch-up turned into a deep conversation that lasted until 2:30 am. We talked about everything—the highs, the lows, and all the changes life had thrown our way. From that night on, we were inseparable. It was as if the universe had finally decided to reveal the invisible string that had always connected us. The coincidences were uncanny: my grandpa had been friends with both of Andy's grandfathers, our dads had played football together as kids, Andy's brother had even been part of my sister's quinceañera, our aunts had graduated together, and so much more. It was clear that our lives had been intertwined in more ways than we could count. It was only a matter of time before that invisible string pulled us together, tying our hearts into a perfect knot. And so, our love story began—a beautiful testament to the power of fate, family, and the magic of an invisible string that had always been there, patiently waiting to connect us. -Elyssa

The Engagement

Mastermind- Taylor Swift

When Andy decided he wanted to spend forever with me, he chose a moment during his birthday BBQ in February to ask my dad for my hand. My dad obviously said yes (super quickly I might add) and then responded with his famous statement of "no refunds or returns." My family has a tradition of hosting a huge Easter party every year, bringing together friends and family from all over. It’s a tribute to my grandparents, Rosa and Jose Molina, who met at an Easter celebration. After my grandpa passed away, the event became even more meaningful. Andy had attended the “Molina Easter” party before, as it’s open to friends and family alike. He knew how much I loved Easter, and with everyone in town, it seemed like the perfect moment to propose. It wasn’t until after he planned it that he learned the deeper significance of the occasion, making it all the more special. With over 75 friends and family members gathered in the backyard, Andy set his plan into action. My cousin casually pulled me aside, giving Andy just enough time to prepare. When I returned, "Mastermind" by Taylor Swift—my favorite song to sing to him—was playing. As I walked back into the yard, I saw Andy waiting with a ring pop in hand—a nod to an inside joke between us. But beyond the humor was a ring with real significance, crafted from his mom’s wedding band and his grandma’s diamond. Andy got down on one knee and proposed. Surrounded by family and friends, I said yes, and together, we took the next step in our journey with the people who matter most right there with us. -Elyssa
