Drew and Reagan met in middle school, after Reagan's family moved to Sumner. After becoming best friends with Drew's younger sister, McKenzie, the families became friends as well. Drew even mowed the Ptacek's family yard! After about a year, Drew's family moved to West Minister, Colorado. Reagan's family remained in Sumner for about 6 more months, then decided to move back home to Waterloo. Little did Drew and Reagan know what was in store for them.
After 5 years, Drew and Reagan reconnected on August 14th, 2021. Thanks to Drew and his fellow Marines, while in western attire, they made a funny cover to "We Are Young" by the band Fun. This silly little video struck a cord with Reagan and she decided to reach out to Drew.
In any relationship, you will face adversity. In their story, Drew and Reagan faced months apart and only being able to talk through a screen. They were 3,810 miles apart and had quite a big time difference to overcome. Drew and Reagan were not discouraged, they were determined to make it work. Months went by of talking, when Drew wanted to ask Reagan to be his girlfriend. Drew and Reagan wanted to wait till they were in person, so the first homecoming planning began. Fast forward to December 21st, 2021, an excited Reagan, cute sign in hand, drove to Eppley Airport to pick up her Marine. An excited but nervous Drew waited for his bags when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to see Reagan and both broke out into big smiles and embraced each other in a hug. Drew asked Reagan to be his girlfriend and she said yes. This would be the start of their dating relationship and a journey filled with lots of joys, memories, planned trips, and some heartbreaking goodbyes when Drew had to return back to the Marines or when Reagan had to catch a flight home.
After Reagan's March trip to Hawaii, Drew returned home on leave, in July of 2022. It had been 4 months since the couple had last seen each other. Drew and Reagan had gone to a jeweler to get Reagan's dream ring made and Drew was secretly working on planning the proposal. After a long day of work for Reagan that ended up making them late for their own proposal. Drew and Reagan started on their way to the Ansbach's family home. During a beautiful Nebraska sunset, Drew had everyone pose for a picture. He then got down on one knee and asked Reagan to marry him. Reagan who was totally oblivious to what was happening actually told Drew to knock it off. Reagan said this because the couples' young nieces were nicely posing for what Reagan thought was just a group photo. Once Reagan realized, Drew asked Reagan to marry him again and she rejoicingly said yes! The two celebrated with their family and friends and the wedding planning began.
After months of planning, the big day had arrived. Reagan had moved out to Hawaii on December 13th, 2022. The big day was 10 days later on December 23rd, 2022. The couple planned a small ceremony on one of the couples favorite beaches. It was a beautiful sunny day and will forever be cherished by the couple. With their vows in their hearts and rings on their hands, the happy couple was officially Mr. and Mrs. Ansbach.
After a little more than a year since the big day, Drew had received orders of his medical separation, due to multiple knee injuries while serving in the Marine Corps. The couple then played the waiting game on when they would actually be going home. In the meantime, Drew and Reagan started packing, seeing all of their favorite Hawaiian sites, and setting things up back home. After about 2 months of waiting, Drew, Reagan, and Hazel the sassy but sweet Pitbull/Terrier mix, received a date to go home. Moving from Hawaii to Nebraska takes a lot and they only had 30 days to do it! Once the car, house, and sweet Hazel were all squared away, Drew and Reagan said goodbye to Hawaii and all of theirs friends who turned into family. Reagan and Drew are so thankful for everyone they met and are grateful to have Hawaii be apart of their story. The Ansbach's moved back to Nebraska on January 16th, 2024. Fast forward to July 2024, the Ansbach's welcomed another sweet puppy to the family, an 8 week old Golden Retriever named Oliver. Drew, Reagan, Hazel, and Oliver are loving Nebraska and are glad to be back. There really is no place like home.
