Explore Buffalo

Some of Julia and Alex's favorite spots in Buffalo. It's a mix of food, culture, and activities. The Visit Buffalo Niagara is an outstanding resource for places to eat, drink, shop, and explore. When traveling to new cities, try searching for "48 hours in..." to get the highlights of each city. Here is the New York Times's article for Buffalo: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/28/travel/what-to-do-in-buffalo-ny.html Visit Buffalo Niagara has one too but it's not as succinct: https://www.visitbuffaloniagara.com/48-hours-in-buffalo/

A shopping and eating district closer to the reception.

Learn: The Buffalo History Museum

1 Museum Court, Buffalo, NY 14216
, (716) 873-9644

Buffalo, once the eighth largest city in the United States, has a rich history ingrained in steel and flour commerce. The museum shares Buffalo's economic prosperity and its decline in the 1960s after the St. Lawrence river was dredged to allow ocean-faring vessels access to the Great Lakes, rendering the Erie Canal obsolete. Learn about the Queen City's history and explore the city itself to see how it's on the rebound.

Learn: Buffalo City Hall

65 Niagara Square, Buffalo, NY 14202
, (716) 851-4890

The iconic art deco landmark offers a free observation deck during the weekdays. "City Hall’s lobby and the inside of the observation deck will once again be open for visiting and touring. The outer walkway of the observation deck will remain closed for repairs from damage it sustained during a recent storm. Buffalo City Hall hours will be 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with access through all public entrances."

Learn: Buffalo Transportation Pierce Arrow Museum

263 Michigan Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14203
, (716) 853-0084

The Pierce Arrow museum resembles more of a car-collectors showroom than an actual museum but it is still pretty cool. The museum boasts a fully-constructed Frank Lloyd Wright gas station.

Learn: Maid of the Mist

1 Prospect Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14303
, (716) 284-8897

Niagara Falls is about 40 minutes outside Buffalo. If it's on your bucket list to see one of the great wonders of the world, we're going to recommend you get up close and personal. Get your disposable Maid of the Mist poncho, hop aboard, and push off to get assaulted by wind and the Fall's mist.

Hike: Niagara Scenic Parkway

Niagara Scenic Parkway, Niagara Falls, NY

Want to get a little outdoorsy while visiting Niagara Falls? Hike the scenic trail along the gorge (post-waterfall) and get close to the unbelievably powerful Niagara River. The hike is pretty easy and does not require hiking boots but you will get your shoes dirty.

Eat: Anderson's Frozen Custard

6075 Main Street, Williamsville, NY 14221
, (716) 632-1416

For the best ice cream and beef on weck (roast beef on a kimmelweck roll). There are many locations throughout Western New York but this is the closest to the reception.

Eat: Bar-Bill North

8326 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14221
, (716) 710-9464

Can't decide if you want to try Beef on Weck or Buffalo wings? Try both here. You will be hard-pressed to find better wings than Bar-Bill North.

Eat: Britesmith Brewing

5611 Main Street, Williamsville, NY 14221
, (716) 650-4080

A newer brewery in a rehabilitated barn right on the river. Great beer, fun atmosphere, and decent food.

Eat: Duff's Famous Wings

3651 Sheridan Drive, Amherst, NY 14226
, (716) 834-6234

When you're in Buffalo, you have to have Buffalo wings. Capital "B" in Buffalo because they were invented here and it has nothing to do with the animal. There's a rivalry between Duff's and the Anchor Bar. We prefer Duff's. This is the original location but we prefer the Eastern Hills Mall location because it's bigger. If you have an interest in failing malls, Eastern Hills is comically tragic. Warning: mild is medium, medium is hot, and hot is certain death.

Eat: Gabriel's Gate

145 Allen Street, Buffalo, NY 14201
, (716) 886-0602

Best wings in Buffalo. This is in Allentown (fun bar area), which has been renamed Josh Allentown.

Eat: Ted's Hot Dogs

124 West Chippewa Street, Buffalo, NY 14202
, (716) 247-5314

Best charcoal grilled hot dogs and burgers - also this location is in the rowdy bar strip of Buffalo. Plenty of other locations throughout Western New York.

Drink: Big Ditch Brewing Company

55 East Huron Street, Buffalo, NY 14203
, (716) 854-5050

Great IPA's and flights

Drink: Lucky Day Whiskey Bar

320 Pearl Street, Buffalo, NY 14202
, (716) 322-0547

You like whiskey? Oh this is the spot for you! Check out this trendy bar with a warm, historic atmosphere.

Drink: Misuta Chow's

521 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14203
, (716) 259-8228

A bar that does not feel like it fits anywhere in Buffalo. Misuta Chow's is a great place for cocktails in a Japanese-esque arcade. Closes at midnight.

For all the days along the way
