Our Love Story

2016-2019

Danielle and Rudy met in the most high school way possible — a quick, awkward introduction in his parents’ front yard. His friends had picked Danielle up from her job at a little ice cream shop in downtown Willow Glen, and there he was: the cute senior boy. Danielle was just a sophomore with a crush she was sure would never be reciprocated. Rudy thought she was beautiful, but he was just a little too shy to make it obvious. A week after that first introduction, Rudy invited her to meet him at the football field after homecoming. It wasn’t glamorous — just a group of teenagers lingering a little too late, music somewhere in the distance, and that unmistakable electricity of being young and nervous. That night, they shared their first kiss. After that, they couldn’t seem to stay away from each other. What began as weekend hangouts quickly turned into long conversations, late-night drives, and any excuse to see one another again. Somewhere between those moments, a simple crush grew into something deeper. Then Rudy graduated and began college at San Jose State. Suddenly, Danielle wasn’t just crushing on a senior at school— she had fallen for a college boy. But timing wasn’t fully on their side. Because of their age difference, they couldn’t officially date yet. So they chose patience. They talked every day. They found quiet ways to show up for each other. They grew up alongside one another, holding onto something they both knew was worth waiting for. Two years later, when Danielle turned 18, there was no hesitation. It had always been him.

Long Distance Love

2019-2023

When Danielle graduated high school there was so much excitement and relief. After two years of waiting, they could finally date openly. No more secrecy or quiet explanations. Rudy couldn’t have been happier to bring her around his family. On a perfect summer day they drove to San Francisco together. Later that night, sitting in the car at Twin Peaks with the city glowing below them, Rudy told her he loved her for the first time. Danielle said it back. The next morning, she had to leave for college. The four hour drive between San Jose and Reno suddenly felt much farther. Long distance became their new normal. Danielle drove home and Rudy flew to her whenever possible. Some months were easier than others. Sometimes they went longer than they wanted without seeing each other. But even in the hardest stretches, they never doubted where they stood. They built a routine. Phone calls between classes and during workouts. Long talks about the future — not in a wishful way, but in a planning way. They spoke often about the day they would finally live in the same space, counting down to something they both knew was inevitable. Goodbyes were never easy. But Danielle grew used to coming back to her room after Rudy left and finding notes he had written on her whiteboard. Small words and inside jokes. Simple reminders and promises. Something sweet waiting for her after every hard goodbye. Long distance didn’t shake them. It strengthened them. They learned to trust deeply and communicate honestly. They always knew it would work; it felt right, simply because it was them. So when college was coming to an end, Danielle finished her final semester online, just to move back a little sooner.

Finally Under One Roof

2023-2024

After years of countdowns and airport goodbyes, it was finally time. Their first place together was a small apartment in Cupertino. The first few nights, their mattress sat on the floor and boxes lined the walls. It was humble, but lying there together in that half-unpacked room, they both realized something exciting and certain: they probably wouldn’t spend another night apart again. The adjustment to sharing everyday life took time. Rudy had shared a room with his two brothers his entire life; now he was sharing one with Danielle — and a cat he still insists he isn’t attached to. And yet, Danielle has caught him more than once giving Leo extra pets when he thinks no one is watching, especially after they come home from a night out and he’s feeling particularly affectionate. Living outside the rhythm Rudy had always known wasn’t effortless. Change didn’t come naturally to him, and Danielle gently pushed him to grow into this new chapter. There were lighthearted arguments about time, about routines, about football being on just a little too often. But slowly Rudy learned that change didn’t have to mean loss. It just meant building something new. Underneath all of it was excitement. Routines began to take shape. Somehow, that tiny Cupertino apartment felt like home almost immediately. This time they weren’t planning for the future from different states. They were building it side by side.

The Burlingame Era

2024-2026

When Danielle was accepted into the graduate nursing program at the University of San Francisco, she was overwhelmed with excitement. It felt like the beginning of everything she had worked toward. Moving to Burlingame, though, was a leap. It meant more distance from family and friends. More driving back and forth to San Jose. More early mornings heading into San Francisco for class. It was an adjustment, but one they stepped into together, knowing it was temporary. By then, living together felt natural. There was no other way they wanted it. Their apartment was nicer. The city was quieter. Football was still always on. Danielle cooked; Rudy handled the dishes. They folded each other’s laundry and picked up the slack without keeping score. This chapter was about building, about sacrifice that felt lighter because it was shared. They drove to San Jose often. They made time for everyone. They made it work. On December 27th, 2025, Rudy asked Danielle to marry him on the beach in Pacifica. The waves rolled in, the sky was soft and golden, and it was everything she had dreamed of. The future they had been planning together was finally coming true. It felt closer than ever. They knew they wouldn’t be in Burlingame forever. Danielle is graduating in August, and they’re ready for the next move closer to San Jose.

Full Circle

2026

San Jose is where they grew up and where it all began — the city of first crushes, first kisses, and a love that has grown through every distance and challenge along the way. As they look ahead, they hope to plant roots close to home and the people they love most. They're ready to settle down and build the family they've been talking about for years. Rudy and Danielle cannot wait to be husband and wife, and they are so grateful to have the love and support of everyone by their side. P.S. If you’ve read this far, thank you. It was a long read, but it means so much to us that you took the time to share in our story. We feel so lucky to have you in our lives and can’t wait to celebrate together!
