Love Notes and Yearbooks

Room 429

It was the last semester of senior year — the time when everyone was counting down to freedom, when the air buzzed with endings and beginnings. Kaitlynn had her eyes set on college, her mind on the future. Then, one ordinary morning, a boy she barely knew slid into the seat beside her. “Hey,” he said softly, “you got a pencil I can borrow?” That was how it started — with one simple question, one borrowed pencil. Fernando wasn’t loud or showy, but there was something easy about talking to him. Day after day, the two of them shared smiles, inside jokes, and glances across notebooks. What began as small talk became something real — a connection they hadn’t expected but couldn’t ignore. As graduation approached, they both knew time was short. There were plans, dreams, miles waiting to stretch between them. Kaitlynn packed for college; Fernando stayed behind to work. Sometimes love doesn’t begin with grand gestures or perfect timing. Sometimes, it begins with a borrowed pencil and a smile across a classroom desk.
