In July 2020 Evan and Jordan met. Everything was closed because of COVID… except garden centers. Plants were thriving and so was Pender Pines Garden Center, where Jordan was working her usual shift, covered in dirt and helping customers. That’s when Evan walked in. Evan had originally stopped by just to buy flowers for his mom’s birthday. A quick trip. In and out. Very wholesome son behavior. Big. Bearded. Absolutely unaware that he was about to meet his future wife. He walked up and asked for a job application. Normal enough, right? But then he took it a step further and asked Jordan to be a reference on it. Bold move. She laughed… and somehow said yes. Later that night, Evan decided to fully commit to the bit. He used that “reference” information to message her and ask her on a date. Smooth? Debatable. Effective? Absolutely. Fast forward five years of dates, laughs, memories, and building a life together. When it came time to propose, Evan had originally planned to take Jordan to Pine Double Falls but it had been closed due to tornado damage. So, like any good love story, the plan changed. That change led them to Corbin, Kentucky, the hometown of Evan’s late Grandpa Kirby, which made the trip feel even more meaningful. From there, they made their way to Rainbow Falls, known as the “Niagara of the South.” It felt fitting in more ways than one. They had already visited Rainbow Falls in Hawaii and Rainbow Falls in North Carolina. So ending up at Kentucky’s own version of “Rainbow Falls” almost felt like it was meant to be. After trekking around, the two of them found a flat rock right in front of the waterfall. Evan walked Jordan out onto the rock, took her left hand, and got down on one knee. He asked the same classic question that changes everything: “Will you marry me?” Jordan has never answered anything faster in her life. YES! And that’s how a job application at a garden center turned into forever.
