Back in 2015, it was Junior year prom season and Deven was in need of a date. A mutual friend of ours reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in going to another school's dance. I said of course, after all, who turns down a free dance. Having each other's numbers and talking for a few weeks, we decided to go out on a date and meet before the dance. We went to the State basketball tournament since Deven's school was playing in the championship. After the game, we went to McDonald's picked up some hot chocolate and drove up the mountains to look at the city lights.
During a beautiful day spent at the Dallas Arboretum for the 12 Days of Christmas display, we took a moment to sit and look at the beautiful lake. As we were talking about life and the possibility of what our future would look like, Deven takes me by complete surprise and asks if I will marry him. We spent the rest of the day finishing touring the gardens and joining his parents for a surprise celebration dinner.
While neither of us lives in Albuquerque and for the past two years living in different states, we are both excited to return to our hometown to tie the knot. Being able to share this moment with our friends and family means a lot to us.
