Makayla and Ricky — two kids who grew up just blocks away from each other, with moms who worked side by side and probably secretly hoped this would happen one day. Life took us on our unique paths before bringing us together, and when it did, everything just clicked. Ricky had his sights set on building something lasting in honor of his late father, and he did just that. Today, he’s the proud owner of Slick Rick’s Towing & Recovery (yes, the name is as unforgettable as the man himself). Makayla was busy carrying on a beautiful family tradition, becoming a third-generation hairstylist, and raising her daughter Ella — the little light and purpose that is the center of their world. Then came a quick message that led into sharing a few drinks and conversations in Ricky’s truck...the kind that stretches until morning without noticing. From there, a series of dinner dates and a connection neither of them ever saw coming that made it clear: this was more than just a spark. Letting someone into your life — especially when your heart already belongs to a child — isn’t easy. But from the start, Ricky loved Ella like his own, and she loved him right back. (We’re pretty sure Ricky knew she was the one when Ella gave him her official stamp of approval and anyone who knows Ella knows she doesn’t hand those out easily.) Now we are counting down the days until saying “I do,” surrounded by our favorite people and one very important flower girl as we start the next chapter of our story. We can’t wait to build our forever, as one big, beautiful family.
