From a missions trip to forever — our story is one only God could have written. Although we grew up attending the same church, our paths never truly crossed until June 2024. That summer, we both joined a missions trip to Tijuana with Calvary Chapel — and that’s where everything changed. What began as simple conversations over our shared love of oldies music and movies quickly grew into something deeper. In the midst of serving the Lord together, we began learning each other’s stories, hearts, and dreams. God used that week not only to impact the lives of others, but to quietly begin writing our own love story. After the trip, we couldn’t stop talking. In July 2024, we went on our first date at Smoke House, where we finally shared what had been growing in our hearts. Just one month later, on August 7th, Jonathan asked Rachel to be his girlfriend in the most thoughtful way — through a series of letters he had written during our time getting to know each other, ending with one final letter asking her to officially be his. It was intentional, prayerful, and full of love. Our relationship was built on faith from the very beginning. We spent our early months going to movies, planning date nights in, serving at church, and being intentional about growing not only closer to each other but closer to Christ. Like any relationship, we faced challenges, but through prayer, grace, and commitment, we learned how to support one another and build a foundation rooted in God’s love. On September 27th, 2025, in the beautiful mountains of Lake Arrowhead, Jonathan asked Rachel to marry him — just one month after our one-year anniversary. He had purchased the ring the month before, asked Rachel’s father for his blessing the week prior, and told his family the night before — keeping it a complete surprise for everyone. Because we both feel closest to the Lord in nature, Jonathan knew he wanted to propose somewhere surrounded by His creation. After planning a special day in the mountains (and secretly hiding the ring box in his pant leg!), he got down on one knee that morning and asked Rachel to spend forever with him. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the way God brought us together and continues to guide our steps. We cannot wait to enter into marriage, trusting Him with our future and excited to build a life that honors Him — side by side, as husband and wife.
