Flight
You can fly into any of the NYC airports (LaGuardia and JFK are also good options) but we recommend Newark, especially for our WI guests. Located in Newark, NJ it has several direct flights to Milwaukee and Chicago everyday (we usually fly United with no issues). It is easy to get a rental car from here and drive down the NJ Garden State Parkway to Middletown, or take NJ transit all the way down the shore.
Train
If you want to spend a day or two in NYC, we recommend taking the train (or ferry shown below) instead of driving. There are many trains every day going into and out of the city from many different stations in and near Middletown. The train will take you directly to Penn Station in Manhattan, from there you can walk or take the subway wherever you want to go. Download the app on your phone to make ticketing easier and to see train schedules and updates.
House Or Rental
If you're considering staying with a larger group or for an extended period of time, we recommend checking out websites like Airbnb or Vrbo - there are lots of beach houses that are rented out for the winter months and can fit a lot of people.
Travel Note
Another fun way to visit NYC is to take the ferry from Belford, Atlantic Highlands, or the Highlands to one of the piers (we usually go to Pier 11 in the financial district). It is more expensive than the train and has a lot less options for times, but it is a very fun and unique way to see many of the sights of NYC along the route like the Statue of Liberty, Governor's Island, Ellis Island, several bridges, the shore lines of Staten Island and Brooklyn, and the famous Manhattan skyline.
