Question

Why San Miguel de Allende?

Answer

Other than the fact it was named the number one city in the world on Forbes for 2024. Travel is a passion we both deeply share, and some of our most cherished memories together are from our trips to Mexico. When it came time to choose a destination to celebrate our wedding with our loved ones, San Miguel de Allende kept coming up in our conversations. So, we took a leap of faith, booked a venue, and trusted everything would fall into place—and it did. We are always in search of off-the-beaten-path destinations, and San Miguel de Allende perfectly fits that description. We hope our friends and family will seize this opportunity to travel and explore in the same adventurous spirit that we do. Question

Do I need a Passport?

Answer

It's important to note that this wedding will take place in Mexico, which will require international travel. All guests planning to attend must have a valid passport or passport card to enter and leave Mexico. Please keep in mind that regular passport applications can take 6-8 weeks to process, and expedited service is available for an additional fee, taking 2-3 weeks. Double-check your passport's expiration date to ensure it's still valid through the duration of your trip.

Question

Is San Miguel Safe?

Answer

San Miguel de Allende is regarded as one of the safest cities in Mexico. However, we encourage you to exercise the same common sense you would in any city. Always keep an eye on your belongings and remain vigilant when walking through the city at night. We also recommend scheduling your airport arrivals during daylight hours whenever possible.

Question

What’s the best way to travel within San Miguel?

Answer

The best way to explore San Miguel is on foot! As long as your accommodation is close to the city center, everything is within walking distance. Please check the map to see the proximity of your hotel to the city center for a better understanding. Your hotel will always be able to call a taxi for you. It is perfectly safe to take the green and white cabs on the street. They do not use meters, but fares should typically range between 30 to 60 pesos ($3 to $6). Keep some small bills on hand, as many drivers may not have a lot of change. Tip is not necessary or expected unless the driver assists with suitcases, in which case a tip of ten pesos per parcel. The phone number for Green & White Cab is +52-415-152-0124. Also please feel free to use Uber or Daniel at Transport Chapus (the airport transportation company) +52-415-112-8822.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the Welcome party?

Answer

There will not be transportation to the Welcome Party but it’s a 6 minute drive from the city center or you are always able to walk. You can call a taxi/Uber and it should be around $5-$7 dollars each way.

Question

Is there transportation to and from the wedding?

Answer

Yes! This is the only event with scheduled transportation. For the wedding, buses will pick you up directly from your hotel or Airbnb. A van will be waiting in front of your hotel at 4PM—please be ready on time!

Question

Will the Ceremony and Reception be at the same place?

Answer

Yes. Both the ceremony and reception will be at Casa Adela. This is an outdoor venue so please make sure to wear sunscreen.

Question

CAN I TAKE PHOTOS DURING THE CEREMONY?

Answer

We kindly ask that there are no phones, or cameras during the ceremony. Please take this opportunity to unplug and be in the moment with us!

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Comfortable shoes:) Ladies, always have flat sandals on hand- AT ALL TIMES due to cobble stone roads and sidewalks! Expect sunny and warm days (80-90°F) with cool, clear nights (60-70°F), but remember, we're high up at 6,400 ft, so sunscreen during the day and layers at night are a must. For the wedding reception, though it shouldn't be chilly yet, bring along a shawl or jacket—it's always wise to be prepared. The reception will be in the venue's courtyard, partially open-air, but don't worry, we've got AC on standby if needed!

Question

How much cash will I need?

Answer

When you land, head straight to the ATM just past customs to get some pesos. We suggest withdrawing 2,000-3,000 MXN ($100-150 USD), which should cover your cab fares, tips, and any delicious street snacks you're eager to try.

Question

If I can't speak Spanish, will that be an issue?

Answer

No. The People of San Miguel are so kind and helpful and for the most part know English (especially at any hotel or Airbnb). If you plan to go to some of the smaller non- touristy spots, having a translator app on your phone is a great idea.

Question

Should I leave a tip for services in San Miguel?

Answer

In San Miguel, tourism is the city’s main industry, and therefore many San Miguelitos rely on tips to supplement their livelihood. It's a nice way to say "thank you." Here are a few general suggestions: Airport/hotel baggage handlers: $1 USD per article of luggage Taxi: Not expected Waiters: 10-15% of tab – though service is often already included. Check the bill before tipping. Maids/cleaning staff: $1-2 USD per day per guest

Question

Is it safe to drink the water in San Miguel?

Answer

We advise against drinking tap water anywhere in Mexico, and it’s probably best to steer clear of ice unless you’re dining at a higher-end restaurant. It's also wise to avoid consuming salads, street fruit, or raw vegetables to minimize the risk of getting sick. When indulging in street food, ensure that any ice or beverages are made with filtered water (agua pura) for added precaution.

Question

Can I get my hair and nails done in San Miguel?

Answer

It’s a charmingly small town, so don’t expect an abundance of options! If you need a salon recommendation, we can ask our wedding planner, but your best bet might be to get your nails done before the trip. Similarly, don’t rely on finding a local salon for hair—consider prepping beforehand. As for outfits, don’t count on finding the perfect shoes or clothes for wedding events here; the shopping scene is limited.

Question

Do you have recommendations for what to do and where to eat?

Answer

See "Things to do" tab on our website.

Question

Where can I find your registry?

Answer

You can find our registry details on our website. However, if you're making the journey to Mexico for our wedding, that's truly all we could ask for. Please don't feel obligated to bring a gift as well. Your presence is the best present!
