Sean and Madison grew up in the same small town which resulted in their paths crossing multiple times throughout their childhoods. During her freshman year of high school, Madison began going to youth group with Sean's sister Riley. After spending time together at a church retreat, Sean worked up the courage to ask Madison to homecoming. Nearly four years later (three of which were long-distance), Sean asked Madison to spend the rest of their lives together.

In the summer of 2023, as Madison prepared to move to Iowa, her friends Ella and Liv invited her on a hike. They went to White Pines State Park, the same park in which her parents got engaged 30 years earlier. After a few insistent trail redirections by Ella and Liv, they arrived at a staircase and found Sean waiting on his knee. Sean proposed and she said yes! They exited the trail and were greeted by friends and family to celebrate the beginning of the rest of their lives together.
