Thayna came to the United States of America as an exchange student, planning to live one or two years in the country to improve her English and return to Brazil. After approximately three weeks of living in Pennsylvania, she met Jeffery, and it was love at first sight. With a reduced vocabulary, a lot of creativity to communicate, and, above all, a lot of willpower from both of them, they made it happen. Some obstacles came along the way when Thayna unexpectedly had to move to New Jersey. Still, it was only a few miles between the couple and every weekend; they committed to seeing each other in Delaware, New Jersey, sometimes going to the beach or strolling around New York City. Initially, the plan to stay here for a period became permanent. Now they are planning their wedding in Brazil!

In October 2022, the couple planned a trip to Brazil so that Thayna could visit her family and Jeffery could meet her parents. They had a great trip; they went to the beach, and Jeffery fell in love with Brazil and her family. Jeffery does not speak Portuguese, and her family does not speak English, but thanks to technology, they use phones and have great conversations. Jeff already had everything planned for proposing; he was talking with Thayna's mother before traveling through WhatsApp and planned a dinner with a "small" part of the family. During dinner, he proposed. It was everything Thayna dreamed of; being with family and with her soulmate was like a fairy tale.
