Our story starts in 2019 in Amarillo, TX, land of dust storms, wind turbines, and cattle farms. The wind turbines are what brought Rodrigo out there for an engineering job. Haley was finishing her last couple of years of medical school. Just when they had both lost hope in the West Texas dating scene, Rodrigo struck up a conversation with Haley during an Orange Theory workout class. At the time, Rodrigo was training for a marathon (per usual), and while he was running his tread blocks effortlessly, Haley was struggling to stay alive, so the conversation was limited. They continued seeing each other nearly every day at the evening class and would find themselves chatting in the parking lot well after the studio was closed. One day Rodrigo added Haley on FB and slid into her DMs to ask her if she wanted to go running in Palo Duro Canyon with him and his friend Pamela. Because Haley had a crush on Rodrigo, she had to keep up the facade that she was a runner, so she said yes. Well, about 3 minutes into the trail run she requested to walk. That night, Rodrigo offered to be Haley's sherpa and carried her water and has continued to be her sherpa as they have climbed mountains all over the world over the past 5 years. In April of 2020, they had planned their first big international adventure to New Zealand. Those plans were of course derailed by the pandemic. In a moment of spontaneity after the trip was cancelled, they decided to drive to a small town called Hereford to "just look" at the miniature Australian Shepherd puppies. Less than 24 hours later they took Blu home with them and they grew closer than ever quarantining with a crazy aussie puppy. A few months after they started dating, Haley moved to Salt Lake City with Blu to start her residency and Rodrigo moved to Denver to start a new job. Because of COVID, Rodrigo was able to spend most of his time working from home in Salt Lake City, where they built a community of friends that are like family and continued building a love for adventuring in the outdoors. Over 4 years after they first started dating, Haley and Rodrigo finally made it to New Zealand and Rodrigo pulled off the most perfect and epic surprise proposal in the mountains. We can't wait to celebrate with our favorite people and we are so excited to share our love of travel during our wedding weekend by showing off Rodrigo's hometown of Puebla, Mexico.
