Looking to walk around, catch a glimpse of classic Portland? Look no further than the Old Port! Located right in Downtown Portland, this area is great if you're looking to do some shopping, walking around, maybe grab a bite to eat along the port, or find yourself in one of the bars or breweries along the way ;) Shopping recommendations: Middle St.: Has some bigger chain stores along the way. This street is also host to most of the restaurants mentioned below and is walking distance to the wharf. Fore St.: A quant street that is jammed full of boutiques, bookstores, fun bars, coffee shops, etc. Commercial St.: Right on the wharf, this street is home to stores all along its way whether you look left or right. There are some great kitchen and home goods stores (Blanche and Mimi, LeRoux Kitchen), as well as clothing and lifestyle. You can't miss the Portland Lobster Co. down here, which we highly recommend checking out as well.
Looking for an upscale seafood restaurant right on the water in Portland? We've got you covered. Fantastic raw bar, lobster rolls, cocktails, and outdoor seating. Reservations definitely recommended for the time of year. Scales is walking distance from all hotels surrounding the Old Port/Downtown and also offers parking if needed.
Did you try a lobster roll at the wedding and you were thinking to yourself, "damn, I could eat 5 more"? Or, now that we said that, you want to try those lobster rolls out prior to the wedding?! Then you have to check out Eventide! Owned and operated by the brains behind our catering team, Eventide is a must visit if you're looking for top notch seafood. A quick walk from both Congress Street and the wharf area, Eventide is easy to get to on foot or by car. Reservations available for larger groups, but walk in only for smaller parties!
As the first word on the Benkay website suggests, Oishi, this restaurant is cooking up the tastiest Japanese food. Benkay is serving everything from traditional Japanese food, to an extensive sushi and sashimi menu. If you sit at the sushi bar (our favorite), you'll get to drool over all the orders being made in front of you (and also ask the chefs what to keep ordering next). Tanoshimu!
Right on Exchange Street, this coffee shop is perfect if you're looking to get your caffeine levels up while shopping in the area, for an early morning, or just 'cause. As it is a basement cafe, you'll take the stairs down, but immediately end up at the counter. Their seasonal drinks are always tasty, but you also can't go wrong here with a classic black cold brew. Buzz serves breakfast sandwiches as well!
