How We Met

That girl is NEVER going to text me!

Tessa and Tyler's story begins in the most unlikely of places—the Texas State library. It's almost funny to think about, two college students actually in a library. Tyler had been tucked away on a different floor, working on a group project, while Tessa had been bouncing between buildings, dealing with frustrating printer issues. Fate—or perhaps a malfunctioning printer—led them to the same table of computers on the 4th floor. Tyler, having been elected by his group to print their presentation, sat down at the table across from her, focused on his task. They didn’t even notice each other at first. After about 15 minutes, Tyler was ready to head back upstairs. But before he left, on a whim, he took the only scrap of paper he had—the corner of his homework—and slid it toward Tessa. “This is for you,” he said with a small grin. Tessa, laser-focused on the computer that refused to print, didn’t even glance his way. “Thank you,” she muttered in a monotone voice, eyes glued to the screen, barely registering his existence. But in that brief moment, she did notice something—his arm tattoos, a detail that stuck with her. Tyler stood there for a moment, a little surprised. As he walked away, he couldn’t help but think, Wow, what a bitch. Later, curious about the tattooed guy from the library, Tessa did a bit of harmless Facebook stalking. She found his profile, scanned his pictures, and finally got a proper look at him before deciding to send that first text. It’s hard to believe that almost seven years later they’re still together. Funny how things can start with just a scrap of homework and some online sleuthing.
