Heartbroken, I jumped onto OkCupid looking to restore my hope in love. Well, I think I was mostly hoping for a decent drink and conversation. Online dating is a risky place to look for any of those things, but what can I say? I’m an eternal optimist at heart. A man with the most contagious smile caught my eye. He was witty and smart, and professed to curse a lot when doing home improvement projects. Dreamy! So, I made a move and within a week we were ginning stupidly at each other over lunch and talking non-stop. I expected a pleasant distraction, but serendipitously found the man I will continue to grow, heal, and live fully with all the rest of our days. And not just that - I was gifted three silly, smart, kind, strong, creative, and beautiful step-kids who I love with my whole heart. I found family. My family.

I had an incredible life - three kids, a house in the suburbs, a menagerie of pets, and a fufilling career. But there was a space for partnership that I wanted to fill with a special person. After a discouraging foray into online dating (those few months were a short price to pay, Tessa likes to remind me), a witty, beautiful woman sent a message that would change all our lives. I knew right away that there was something special about our connection, but it was when I saw how much she loved being with my kids that I knew she was the person I wanted to build a future with. This new chapter with Tess has brought so much love into our lives and opened up new horizons and adventures.
