How We Met

It's a Marathon (By Tessa)

(2015) Austin and I were both transfer students to SDSU and we met in the Exercise Science program! Our first dates were incredibly romantic, we met to study at the library. Outside of studying you could find us with our friends at the bowling alley or $2 talls at Skinner's in Brookings, where we fell in love with olives in our beer. Five months later, he finally asked me to "O-fish-ially" be his girlfriend. Yes, he asked with a fish! In the following 6 years, we have conquered big life events & made a lot of memories together in Brookings, Sioux Falls, and Omaha. Spending time with our family and friends is most important to us! Our cat Finn has been a loving companion and our little camper Sylvie joined the family last year! We share a passion for being active, cooking and living healthy, traveling, and spending time outside. Austin is truly my rock: he supported me to the Olympic Marathon Trials, he carried me through PA school, and he keeps up with me (as long as he has a bike)! I cannot wait to marry this man, who is truly my best friend. I'm not sure he knew what he was getting into, but I couldn't ask for a better guy to cheer me on.

Our Engagement

September 4th, 2021 (By Austin)

A day I will truly never forget. Tessa and I traveled to South Dakota to spend the weekend with our families. We made our way to Redfield to stay at Aunt Shannon and Uncle Ted’s beautiful home on the lake for Labor Day weekend. I was nervous the entire week for the suspense of asking Tessa to be my wife. I wanted to make it a very special day because it was a long time coming! I couldn’t have asked for a nicer summer day. I took Tessa on a small tour of the town while my family was setting up for the big surprise. We then walked behind the house by the deck to see the family hanging out outside. Tessa had no clue what was about to happen until my mom brought down a big bouquet of flowers with 5 roses, one for each year we had been together. I got down on one knee (trying to hold back the tears) and asked her to spend the rest of her life with me. It was a special moment and to see the look on her eyes when I put the ring around her finger… I’ll never forget! The party started and we were showered with confetti and champagne. We shared wine, cake and French macarons and stayed up all night because we didn’t want our engagement day to end. Can't wait to see you in SoDak! Cheers, T & A
