Dearest Gentle Reader, The season is upon us, and while the air is thick with the scent of lilacs and ambition, it is a far more intoxicating aroma that captures this author’s attention: the scent of a match truly made in heaven. To understand the brilliance of our current Diamond, one must look back to the year 2023, when the game began in earnest. The Opening Gambit It was at the hallowed grounds of Camden Yards where our incomparable Miss Tess first encountered Mr. Billy. One might have expected a delicate tea, but our pair opted for a more spirited introduction. Amidst the cheers of the crowd, they shared the local nectar—an Orange Crush for the lady and a robust Miller Lite for the gentleman. However, every diamond has her edges. Miss Tess, with a flick of her fan and a gaze toward the North, informed her suitor that her heart was set upon Boston by summer’s end. Yet, as she spoke of the players and the strategy of the game with a keenness that would rival any strategist in the War Office, Mr. Billy was struck—not by a stray ball, but by the realization that he could not possibly let such a rare prize slip through his fingers. A Growing Household As the Orioles conquered the AL East, Billy conquered the lady’s hesitations. By year’s end, the two had not only shared a roof but had invited a third into their confidence: a Golden Retriever of the most noble pedigree named Goose. By 2024, the trio sought grander quarters within the city, trading narrow hallways for a proper yard. Their days were a whirlwind of: • Epicurean Pursuits: Scouting every Italian larder in the city. • Pastoral Outings: Frequent strolls through the Farmers Markets. • Further Additions: The arrival of young Gunnar, a companion for Goose named for a most celebrated rookie. Yet, as the dogs frolicked and the laughter echoed, the Ton began to whisper. One could not help but wonder: When would Mr. Billy offer the metalwork to match the lady’s brilliance? The Question Asked The year 2025 brought with it the whispers of the suburbs and the acquisition of a carriage—a modern SUV. The signs were as clear as a high-noon sun. Following a most delightful brunch at their favored haunt, Mr. Billy finally discarded his caution and took to one knee. Miss Tess, to the delight of all, said yes. It is therefore with the greatest pleasure that I invite you to turn your attention to their upcoming celebration. There shall be dining, there shall be dancing, and there shall be a toast to a love that proved a move to Boston is no match for a Baltimore gentleman’s devotion. Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown
