We met on Facebook, bonding over our shared love of hiking — not realizing the app wasn’t exactly accurate about the distance between us. At the time, Tessa was living in Fort Collins (FoCo) and Brandon was in Pueblo, a bit farther apart than we expected. By the time we figured it out, it was already worth the drive. For our first date, we went on a hike and hit it off right away. Tessa didn’t scare him off with her sense of direction — though he did ask, “How good are you with directions?” After that, even though Tessa wasn’t sure if she was moving south for work, Brandon happened to be adventuring in Estes Park, just an hour away on summer weekends. Weekend hikes quickly turned into climbing, camping, and the start of something neither of us saw coming.
