How We Met

Although we were technically in Day Care together for a short time as babies, our paths didn't officially cross until Teryn was a senior and Jake was a junior at Craig High School. It all started when Jake had to write an article on the Cross Country team for the school newspaper. Since Teryn was captain of the girls' team, he had to reach out for a quote. About a month later, with the help of mutual friends and a class next to each other, Teryn found out Jake knew how to play guitar and was sending funny videos to his friends. Teryn being the way that she is, questioned how she could receive some of these videos to see his guitar skills. We began texting as high schoolers do, and immediately hit it off. After many attempts from Teryn to let Jake know she was interested in him, it finally took her best friend (and now Maid of Honor) Maddie switching spots on the bleachers with Teryn so she was standing next to Jake at a basketball game. Thankfully Maddie made it quite obvious what she was doing, and Jake finally got the hint. Shortly after that night, we started dating and the rest is history! We've been through many ups and downs in the last 7 years, (including the immature fights and break ups), but have always come back to each other better and stronger. We are so excited to see what the future holds for us!

The Proposal

When Jake first thought about how he would propose, he knew he wanted it to be in a place that was special to us. He landed on the park in Teryn's parents' subdivision that we used to spend a lot of time at when we first started dating. After scheming with Teryn's parents, they decided to trick her into thinking we were going out to a nice dinner, but needed to help her mom move something at their house first. Skip to the night of the proposal, September 20th, 2019 - Teryn got held up at work and Jake started to panic. When Teryn finally got home, Jake was rushing her out the door so we weren't late for dinner. Teryn was already frustrated for being rushed, and then Jake decided to take the back way to her parents' house (which takes longer, but is closer to the park). When Jake pulled straight into the park instead of going around the bend to Teryn's parents' house, she grew even more annoyed. Especially when Jake insisted we get out and walk around. Lucky for Jake, there was a deer in the trees that he blamed for his desire to get out of the car. Jake then lead Teryn down the path to the pond at the park, where she finally saw the stool with a bouquet of roses sitting on it. That's when she caught on to what was happening...After what seemed like a long walk over to the roses, Jake grabbed the ring box from the stool and popped the question. Of course Teryn said yes! Next, out came Jake's (then pregnant!) sister Sarah from hiding in the trees with a camera to capture the whole thing. We then joined our families who were waiting at a bar downtown to celebrate with us. Teryn is still shocked Jake was able to pull off the ultimate surprise!
