River Street has tons of shops, restaurants and bars. It is a unique Savannah atmosphere and wellworth it! Between the months of March and November, River Street hosts a First Friday &Saturday event the first weekend of the month. Local artists and craftsmen set up tents all alongRiver Street and they have fireworks on Friday night around 9pm! River Street Sweets is a mustand your inner child will thank you for it! Make sure to get free samples of the pralines! WetWillies is a Savannah staple so if you want an adult slushie, swing in there and grab a “call a cab”(be careful, they will sneak up on you!). Also, if you are on River Street, you can look onvesselfinder.com and track which boats are coming into port!
Plant Riverside is a new district located at the east end of River Street. It is filled with several restaurants, rooftop bars, shopping, music venues, kid-friendly educational attractions, and various art exhibits (including a giant dinosaur skeleton in the main lobby). This is a one-stop shop filled with entertainment for everyone! There are options for lunch, brunch, dinner, drinks, and shopping. I highly recommend exploring the area - a new must for anyone coming to Savannah!
Wormsloe Historic Site is beautiful and worth the drive if you can make it out there! It is in theSandfly area and I recommend stopping by Sandfly BBQ (the green beans are my FAVORITE), Cohen’s Retreat (more upscale dining), or The Wyld (casual dockside restaurant with surprisingly complex and delicious food - truly a local favorite)! If you are driving around this area, I also recommend driving down Bluff Drive on Isle of Hope. The homes are stunning and the entire area feels like you have been transported to a different era!
Tybee Island is located about 30 minutes from downtown. The lighthouse on Tybee is really neat and renting bikes is an easy way to explore the island! They also have a ton of kayaking or paddle board tours! If you are there for the day, eat at Hucapoos (the pizza is great), Sunday Cafe (a dive restaurant with incredible food), or Sea Wolf (hotdogs and fancy cocktails)! Also, Fort Pulaski is on your way to Tybee. It is an old historic fort and worth a stop if you have the time!
