How We Met

First comes coffee, then comes marriage.

Terry wandered into Lamppost Coffee on the beautiful Georgetown Square, getting settled into a new city and preparing for a new job. She ordered a drink, looked up, and instantly noticed the striking portrait of Jesus on the barista’s arm. That barista was Richard — and he had no idea someone had just developed a crush. From Richard’s perspective, he had only been back in Georgetown for three days. He was goofing around at work when, suddenly, an “angel” walked in. He had felt called to return to Georgetown, unsure why and assuming it would be temporary. But the moment Terry walked through the door, he realized God had bigger plans than he ever imagined. Terry kept coming back. Not just for the lattes, but because Richard was always there. Always kind. Always smiling. They exchanged small talk, shared a few laughs, and slowly began to brighten each other’s days in quiet, meaningful ways. Richard was definitely interested, but before making a move, he had one important question: Was Terry a Christian? He wasn’t about to ask in the middle of her order, but one evening outside Thundercloud Subs, Terry said something that confirmed exactly what he’d been hoping—and praying—for. From there, everything changed. The very next day, Richard invited Terry to the Lamppost Friendsgiving. The day after that, they had their first official date at Kork Wine Bar. Over good wine and long conversations, it became clear that this was something different. Something real. Just a few weeks later, while sitting together on Mt. Bonnell in Austin, Richard asked Terry to be his girlfriend. It was fast. It was a little weird. But in their hearts, they both knew exactly what it was. Terry couldn’t explain it—she just knew. And Richard already knew she was the one. From casual coffees and chance encounters to covenant and commitment, this has been the sweetest story—written by God, sealed with a yes, and lived out in love.
