Terrence: A friend of mine was visiting from Toronto, and we spent the night out along with a few friends in Charlotte, NC (Bubble!). Nancy was out with her girlfriend, and bumped into my group of friends right as Bubble was closing! My friend convinced Nancy to come over for the best Asian food at my apartment. Little did Nancy know - the best Asian food late at night were frozen dumplings. I prepared the best meal ever - and Nancy and I got to talking with full bellies! I was thinking how sweet and kindhearted she was to everyone that night and wanted to get to know her more! We chatted for the rest of the night. I walked her to her car, and asked her to meet for Pho the next day! Nancy: It was Saturday night and I received a SOS from a girlfriend, Janise, who just got her heart broken. I convinced her that she’s far too intelligent, beautiful and extraordinary, and him so obviously undeserving.. so let’s paint the town red! With my wingwoman hat in tact, we ventured around uptown Charlotte to spot every cute and charming guy the city had to offer. We ended at the last bar of the night, Bubble Charlotte, 10 minutes before closing time. A few steps in, we found some cuties to dance with, and instantly became best friends with Courtney. As the lights flickered on, my new bestie Courtney had convinced us that “Terrence” makes the best dumplings she’s ever had and we HAD to come over. I had no idea who this Terrence was, but a promise of dumplings and fun friends? How could I resist! As the night unfolded, I successfully wing woman’d for Janise, who found herself enamored in flirty conversations, and me with the infamous dumpling Terrence. The infamous dumplings? Frozen and from the grocery store! Terrence asks for my Facebook (which to this day he never uses), and eventually manages to get my number. This was 2014 and 10 years later, we’ve grown, thrived and built an incredible life together filled with love and laughs from all of the amazing people we’ve met along the way. The rest is history :)
Terrence: We took a trip to Kauai Island for Nancy’s Birthday! On Nancy’s Birthday (Christmas day) we spent most of the day hiking the Kalalau Trail. I was carrying a mostly empty backpack the whole day because the ring was inside. I was so nervous the ring would get dropped or lost. Nancy suspected nothing! We ended up at Haena Beach around sunset. We were walked along the beach and sat down to admire the views. I planned to purpose at sunset - and was nervous when her dad called her to chat! We sat on the beach watching the sun go down as she chatted. Luckily, Nancy finished her call with just a peek of sun left - I quickly got down on one knee and asked Nancy to marry me! Nancy: Terrence had orchestrated the entire week in Kauai for my birthday, and I was eagerly anticipating soaking in the sun, hiking the beautiful trails, basking in the famous Nā Pali coast, and savoring all of the sunrises and sunsets the island had to offer. I suspected EVERYTHING! All week I noticed Terrence was suspiciously protective of his hiking backpack.. which carried nothing but a small water bottle. Literally the entire thing was “empty” 😆 I distinctly remember stopping at a little mom and pop shop for lunch, and Terrence goes running back to the car to grab the backpack “just in case.” On my birthday, we embarked on the Kalalau trail. I’m pretty sure Terrence was planning to propose on this hike, but let’s be honest. We were NOT CUTE! LOL We were drenched in sweat from the relentless sun, while the hike far more grueling than we anticipated. We ONLY brought that tiny bottle of water in the backpack (lol) and were definitely huffing and puffing along the way. We have such an affinity to sunsets and have been reveling in as many as we could throughout the week. So after the hike, Terrence drives us to a nearby beach to catch the sunset. As this one was setting, my dad calls! I ended up talking to dad for 20 minutes and I could sense Terrence’s anxiety as the last sliver of sun rays slowly dissipated. The moment I hung up, with a hint of light remaining, Terrence immediately drops to one knee. I truthfully cannot remember a single word he said, but I said yes! We cannot wait to celebrate our love and this beautiful next chapter of our lives with you all. See you in Mexico!
