Come to Main Street Station a little early to check out the art exhibit on the first floor (the ceremony & reception are on the second floor).
Brown's Island & Belle Isle are access points to the James River. From Brown's Island, you can access the T. Potterfield (T. Pot) Bridge to the southside of the river. The Belle Isle suspension bridge takes you to Belle Isle and the paths on that island. Both of these bridges cross the James River, have the best views of the city, and are a great choice for mild to moderate walks. Connect to the North Bank and/or Buttermilk trails mentioned below for more!
Check out the North Bank and/or Buttermilk trails in the James River Park System. These are just outside of the immediate Brown's Island & Belle Isle areas. These two hikes can be done together (in a loop) or individually (out-and-back).
The Museum District is walkable neighborhood in the city (and current home of Teri's sister!). The neighborhood is named for its proximity to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. The VMFA is open 365 days a year with rotating exhibits, and general admission to the museum is free! It is undergoing a renovation that upon completion will make it the fourth largest art museum in the US! Just outside of the Museum District neighborhood is the Children's Museum of Richmond and the Science Museum.
Carytown is a unique shopping, dining, and entertainment district along Cary Street, full of small, locally-owned businesses. It is home to the historic Byrd Theater, and Bryson!
Maymont is a beautiful area to spend an hour or two with beautiful Italian & Japanese Gardens, petting zoo, open spaces, a nature center, and a mansion. The Maymont neighborhood was Bryson's home when he & Teri started dating. Access to the Northbank Trail mentioned above is available in the neighborhood.
The Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens have been voted America's #4 public garden by USA Today.
The Virginia Capital Trail is a 52-mile paved trail from Dock Street in downtown Richmond to the historic Jamestown Settlement. Walk, rollerblade, or bike the first mile in Richmond along the James River for a great view of downtown. Teri has cycled from Richmond to Jamestown twice, and Bryson has cycled the 100 miles from Richmond to Jamestown roundtrip in one day!
Richmond is on USA Today’s list of the top 10 best beer scenes. Check out some of the 35+ breweries in the area to see why.
Gelati Celesti (all locations) is our favorite ice cream place. Shyndigz is also amazing.
Cheer on Richmond's professional men's soccer team at City Stadium on Saturday, 10/25 at 6pm! These games have been one of Teri & Bryson's favorite things to do together.
An hour-ish west of Richmond is Charlottesville, and just a little further is Wintergreen and "Nelson 151" - an area of beautiful wineries, and great hiking (along the Appalachian Trail)! Teri would love to recommend a day or two of activities for you.
An hour east of Richmond is the "historic triangle" of Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown. Check out the tons of history in that area! Another hour east is Virginia Beach.
