happily ever after

We met when we were 16 in a college preparedness program. I remember the first time I saw him, I was already in love without even realizing it, I went home and told my mom all about that beautiful boy. We became friends easily but we didn’t start dating til over a year later. We both told people we had feelings for the other for a long time but it wasn’t until the loss of my mother and the hardest summer of my life for us to find our way to each other. On November 20th, 2016, my best friend became my boyfriend.

Every year after my family Thanksgiving we have a tradition of going to Arab Park and looking at the Christmas lights. Shawn and I both love Christmas it’s our absolute favorite! Well Thanksgiving 2020 for my family get together fell on November 28th and little did I know that was the day Shawn was going to propose! However Shawn forgot the ring! He kept trying to find ways for us to drive all the way back home, “let’s go get blankets, gloves, jackets..”, but I wasn’t having it. It was a long drive away. At the end of the Christmas lights there is a big pavilion at the end and while we were all taking pictures, I was turned around to Shawn on one knee. The easiest YES of my life. He proposed with my mother’s ring, my family swooped in with a save, and that just made it all the more special.
