The Wedding Website of Teona McGhaw and Leroy Ward
As time draws near nerves and emotions are through the roof. The bride and groom feel so lucky to have a bridal party that has helped them get this far. It takes a village, and this wedding would not be possible without the amazing family and friends we have. Please keep us prayed up as the special day 4/9 draws near. On Leroy's 49th birthday, him and Teona will become one as husband and wife. Thank you for wanting to share this special day. Many of you have sent wonderful gifts and/or set time aside to attend in person. We feel the love and love you all more. See you soon, Bride and Groom

I cannot remember exactly when Teona and I first met, but it was at a Women's Political Caucus event and connected to her running for office. Teona made a huge impression on me with her message about what her community needed regarding representation. During the pandemic, we met up periodically so I could give her Planned Parenthood safer sex kits to share in the community. Teona is such a wise, in touch and collaborative leader who makes everyone around her rise to be a better person. So excited to celebrate Teona and Leroy's union.

Teona and I met when she was running for state rep. She asked for suggestions and advice. We did door to door together and developed a strategy going forward. She worked really hard, but it did not work in her favor. We continued our friendship; she joined the Women's Political Caucus and began to strengthen her political resume. Her hard work and dedication impressed me, and the rest is history. We have worked on many campaigns, and I have supported her many philanthropic endeavors.

I met Teona when she was training for office. We just connected and then followed up to be on her radio show and after that dear friends. Both trying to make a difference for St. Louis. We had delicious girls lunches, we would chat by phone or text trying to make heads or tails of life and politics. I have so benefited from her super power of getting to know people and making them feel like family. During Covid we co chaired the 1st ever virtual Gutsy Gala and had a huge success. It made a huge difference for the organization and for us as friends. I have loved meeting her friends and family and being a part of her circle of love. The rest is history and now the future! Hugs forever, Maxine

We met in 2016 at a fundraiser and as fellow paralegals had a hilarious first conversation. She was running for state representative, so I volunteered to help. At that time, Teona felt she wanted to run a strong campaign as a black woman in North County. She joked as wanting to run at the time a Senator Jill Schupp or Representative Deb Lavender State Representative campaign because they were packing room with supporters at their fundraisers and raising over 100k to get their messages out. In 2020 Teona one of the best campaigns, she had ever run. She was unsuccessful by the smallest number she's ever loss by. She was devastated and I told her to take a break from politics and focus on community work because I knew Teona had a passion to help people. The Mission Attempt was born through that conversation and the rest is history. This year they will celebrate their 5th anniversary. When Teona found out she was going to be a grandma for the first time we were sitting in the car together and at first, she was a bit upset but we looked at each other and smiled at the fact we both was about to spoil him. I one day want Teona to write a book just because of the things I have seen her overcome as a black woman.

I never imagined when I met Teona in 2018, we’d become sisters. She has an unmatchable, fiery spirit and a force to be reckoned with. Teona has an infectious laugh, a beautiful smile and a vision. She gives so much of herself to others, that it is only right that she was found by her king. I am honored to be a part of her circle and to call her friend. 🥰

Teona and my paths crossed many times when I started getting involved in politics at NWPC-STL, candidate, post-card signing events, and so on. When I ran for office the 2nd time, we got to be better friends. Teona was running as well - both of us in tough races. She came to my 2020 kickoff and I went to hers. But for me, the connection really grew was after we both lost but kept our professional connection going and personal friendship growing. As I got to know Teona over the years I found a kindred spirit. Both of us share an "all in" attitude in everything we do. No holds barred. And as our friendship grew, I found Teona to be someone who was no bullshit with a big heart who has my back. Our wide-ranging conversations go on for hours as we share personal stories and perspectives, and are always learning from each other. I value having a friend like Teona who helps me grow as a person, and I hope I do the same for her. --Helena

I’ve known Teona since elementary school. We both attended Airport Elementary and then Berkeley Middle school. We got closer and closer as we got older. Teona lived across the street and I’d often hang out with her at her house. When my mother remarried I moved out of town and lost touch with Teona for many years. When I returned to St.Louis we picked up right where we left off. Time could not weaken out friendship. Teona was and remains a force of nature. She refused to be defined by her race, sex, or gender. She’s always been a beautiful, smart go getter who believes in herself so fiercely it was contagious. I am blessed to call her friend.
