We’re getting married!

I was a cashier at my local Dollar General. It was just an ordinary day, until the man of my dreams walked in. I fought through my googly eyes and uncontrollable smile to make conversation. It all felt like a matter of seconds but the image of his face was burned in my brain. I remember constantly hoping he would show up again. A week or so had passed as I was opening the store on a gloomy Thursday morning, and I heard the doorbell ring for the first time; it was him. There was no hesitation on his end. He came right up to me and introduced himself. Since that day, we have been inseperable.

Before I start, let me just say that I 100% saw the proposal coming! Matt is just the worst at being discreet! The Thursday before he proposed, he told me, “Don’t make plans this Saturday. I have something planned the whole day”. That was my first clue. The next day we were looking through his pictures of our kitten and we scrolled past a picture of a ring similar to what I had previously described to him. My heart started beating instantly but I tried to play it off like I didnt see anything! Saturday morning we got ready to head down to Elephant Rocks, Johnson’s Shut Ins, and Taum Sauk. When we got to Taum Sauk, I gathered my things for the hike we were about to go on and I saw a business card for a jeweler in the center console. Thats when I absolutely knew that today was the day! He took me to the Mina Sauk Falls where we sat on a big rock at the bottom of the falls and just listened to the water and sat quaintly with each other. After a few moments of silence, he said, “So, I have a question.” and then proceeded with, “Today we have been together for exactly nine months and have known each other for 275 days. So I just wanted to ask you if you would marry me?” The funniest part about it though, was that when he went to pick up the ring on Friday, they said it wasnt ready yet since he had picked a custom mount. He said he kind of panicked because he specifically chose this day to do it on, so he found me a red, heart shaped plastic ring from the dollar store that read, “BFF’s 4-EVA”. I couldnt stop laughing because I was just so happy and thought it was so funny that he gave me this little novelty ring. I guess the proposal was a little unconventional, but our lives are a little unconventional and honestly, I wouldn’t change a single thing about our beautiful life together.
