The football player and the trainer

She said: We met in August 2007 during football two a days at Langston University. This was right after both of us had gone through some trying times. Me with the passing of my mother and him having to prove his worth at a new school as a football player because the school wasn’t quite familiar with his talent (he definitely did prove himself by becoming one of the star players). I was a student athletic trainer and he was a defensive tackle. Defensive tackles just so happened to be the group of players I was assigned to. Beginning my second season as a trainer, I knew most of the players. Jahmikal was one of the new guys, they called him Oak Cliff because he was from Oak Cliff (a popular neighborhood in Dallas, TX. They have a song about it). It wasn’t a love at first sight thing for me, after losing my mom that was the last thing on my mind. Jahmikal use to come into the training room and sit at my table all the time for me to tape his ankles. In the mean time he had not only me, but the whole training room full of people cracking up because he use to clown so much. He always knew how to put a smile on my face. I remember thinking to myself secretly, “he’s kinda cute!” He would flirt frequently and tell me how our lives were lives were gonna be together. One story in particular was: We are gonna get married and have some sons and they are gonna play football in which he will be the coach for the team and I’ll be the trainer. Lol... All these years later, the marriage part of his story is beginning. We’ll see what God has in store for the rest of our story!

The football player and the trainer

He said: It was August 2007, we were in the first football meeting of the year. Our head coach stood up and introduced our coaching staff, our Dean of students and the campus police. After that they showed a season highlight from the previous season. Once the video went off he told us he had some more very important people that we needed to meet. As they were walking out he said," These are your sisters and you should treat them as such." The first one to introduce themselves was Nicki. When I saw her I leaned over and told my homeboy Degrate, "Forget that, that ain't my sister. I'm going to get Nicki.....lol. So as the season began I started seeing her more because she was the trainer assigned to my position group. So I started to pay more attention to her. I noticed she knew more about football than the average chick, which made me have to stay on my game....lol. We also had classes together, and I noticed she was extremely smart and classy with a little sass. But I also noticed she looked sad sometimes. I didn't know at the time why she was so sad, but I knew I was a clown and I could make her smile. Then one day I saw her walking down the hall, and I said,"Hey Nicki." And she said hey. Then I said, Tell yo momma I said hey too (thinking that would get me some props) she turned around with a cool look in her eyes and said, My momma is dead. Then she turned around and walked off. I was so hurt, I felt so dumb. So since I felt so bad, I made it my business to make sure she was happy. Everyday it's a task but I love taking the journey to make it happen.........but I'm a man of my word because, I got her.....lol and I still strive everyday to make her happy. I love her so much, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.
