On a whim, Jenn and her good friend Laura decided to visit Laura's boyfriend in Chicago and stay to celebrate the 4th of July holiday weekend. Tej, who was a roommate of Laura's boyfriend in Chicago at the time, was about to meet the love of his life. Within minutes of meeting, they were already trading witty jokes about fortune cookies, arguing about who took a higher level math course in college, and who was better at baseball. The next few days, the fireworks and flirtatious vibes just kept getting stronger. But there was one minor problem, the weekend was about to end. It was the day before Jenn was about to head back to Iowa that their worlds really collided. Our group of friends decided to take a 30 minute walk to have brunch and hang out afterwards. That 30 minute walk is what they like to call: the time that changed everything. Tej and Jenn walked together side by side while Tej chatted her up and just wanted to keep getting to know her. He basically interviewed her with a million questions. And it was the last question: "So wait, how are you single?" that was meant to leave the impression of: Hi, I am really interested in you and how can I make this work out? Later that day at Cindy's rooftop in Chicago, Jenn challenged Tej to a game of billiards. Tej challenged back saying: "Ok, if I win...I get to have your number!" and Jenn replied: "You can have it any way!"...So then...they didn't even end up playing. Jenn didn't think Tej would call her, but from there on out, they spent hours talking on the phone every night and taking trips to see one another. They both knew quickly that this was going to be forever, so one year later Jenn moved to Chicago and the rest as they say, is history.
Tej and Jenn decided to take a trip to Napa to celebrate their 3 year relationship. The week before their getaway, while attending a friend's wedding, they were bombarded with the question: "So when are you two going to get engaged?" Tej's go-to response was: "Whenever Jenn starts putting more pressure on me." That night Jenn decided to do it: she put more pressure on Tej. She bluntly asked: "When are you going to put a ring on it? Tej's reply: "Maybe we should go shopping for rings first"...When in reality, he already had the ring ready and prepared for a proposal in Napa. Meanwhile, Jenn thought: "Well, I guess he's not proposing in Napa." Jenn was adamant about trying to plan out all the different wineries and places they could go and see in Napa, while Tej was trying to figure out how to stop Jenn from doing so because he already had it all planned out. Tej came up with a sneaky plan. He had his coworker send a fake email saying he had a hookup at Newton Vineyard where he could get them a free wine tour. Tej sent Jenn screenshots of the fake email to keep Jenn's curiosity at bay. Of course, Jenn only heard "free wine tour" and was already sold. They arrived at Newton Vineyard on the morning of the 4th of July for their "free wine tour." Tej was struggling to keep the bulging ring box in his back pocket out of Jenn's sight all morning. But he somehow pulled it off. Overlooking the vineyard from the mountain above, Tej turned into Jenn, grabbed both of her hands, and said a bunch of nice things that they both don't quite remember. He bent the knee and now is writing this blurb on the website because she obviously said YES!
See you there!
