Lindsay and Teiler first met in 7th grade Spanish class at Fernwood Middle School in 2004. We were seated next to each other in the back of the classroom—Lindsay couldn’t see the whiteboard, so Teiler would read it aloud to her. Between 2005 and 2020, life took us in different directions. We attended different high schools, went to different colleges, and lived on opposite sides of the country. Then, in February 2020—just after Teiler moved back to Portland from New York City—we reconnected. Over the next year, during the height of the pandemic, our connection deepened. In December 2020, Lindsay officially asked Teiler to be her boyfriend. In April 2021, we moved into our first apartment together in Portland’s Irvington neighborhood. One of our favorite early memories: making salmon dinners and eating them on a makeshift sofa made of a mattress and storage bins—waiting for our real sofa to arrive. In January 2023, Lindsay made a career change and moved to Costa Rica to teach English—and Teiler followed her there. We lived in a coastal town called Playa del Coco in Guanacaste, working during the week and traveling across the country on weekends. By the time we left, we had explored nearly every corner of Costa Rica together. Now happily back in Portland, we are searching for our first home to buy. In our spare time, we love going on long walks around different neighborhoods in the city, weekend getaways to the Oregon Coast, and spending quality time with friends and family.
