Tegan and Dan’s love story starts with one person: Tegan’s sister Catrin. Tegan and Catrin met the day Tegan was born, of course. Dan and Catrin met a few years later, when Catrin joined Dan’s company as a remote employee in 2020. They quickly became friends and when Catrin came to New York in the summer of 2021, she invited him to have dinner with her and her sister, Tegan. Get ready everybody, sparks are about to fly! Just kidding! No sparks flew at that first meeting because Catrin’s arrow was pointed at the wrong target. She tried to set Tegan up with another coworker – Dan’s best friend, Migz. It was immediately apparent that Tegan and Migz were not a match, but the timing wasn’t right for Tegan and Dan either and they didn’t see each other again for a year and a half. Fast forward to January 2023. Catrin visited Tegan in New York again and invited Dan to dinner at her apartment. Dan almost didn’t go, but luckily, something told him this would be an important night, so he trekked from Murray Hill down to Crown Heights, where he walked into Tegan’s apartment for the first time. This time the connection between Tegan and Dan was immediate and apparent. After an unforgettable night, Dan spent his subway ride home trying to think of the most appropriate way to ask Catrin for her sister’s number. But before he had the chance, he got a text from Catrin that simply said, “you should date my sister,” with Tegan’s contact info. From there, Tegan and Dan’s romance was a whirlwind, from first date at The Seaport in the Financial District to dates at every museum, park, and bookstore in New York. Over the next year and half, their adventures included trips to Stone Harbor with the Gantons, Oregon with the Reyeses, and visiting all their siblings across the country. Then, at the Minnesota State Fair, Dan told Tegan’s parents he was going to propose, and fortunately Tegan’s dad said “you seem to be well-suited,” (high-praise from him). A couple months later, Dan popped the question to Tegan in Prospect Park and she said yes. Our story was a long journey to finding each other at the right time.
