How We Met

Summer 2015

Hannah and Sam had both worked at camp the summer before, but with Sam as the high school maintenance boy and Hannah already done with a year of college they had barely known about each other. When year two rolled in Hannah and Sam both had jobs at Camp Hiawatha for the whole summer, which meant they inevitably saw each other every day. That didn't mean a whole lot until a broken nose Sam took off for a week to join the ELCA national youth gathering. Sam, hopeful for his own military service befriended a chaperone on the trip with his own military past. As the two got to talking, Sam and Deron realized that Sam was working with Deron's oldest daughter at camp. Although Sam and Hannah had hardly spoken Deron, Sam, and Sarah (Hannah's middle sister who was also on the trip) got to know each other that week. When Sam returned back to camp he and Hannah finally acknowledged each other. With Hannah as the craft/canteen coordinator she managed to need quite a bit of assistance from the ever helpful maintenance boy. In between taking out the trash for Hannah, fixing the canteen door so it wouldn't squeak, or finding her sand paper for a craft project Hannah and Sam's fondness for each other grew.

Getting Engaged

December 2018

After a night working in the garage, Sam finally had built up the courage to ask Deron "What would you think if I wanted to become part of your family?" Deron was quiet at first, but quickly realized what Sam had just asked. Weeks later Sarah and Bekah, Hannah's sisters, met with Sam in Duluth and decided on the perfect ring. With a planned Teff- Davidson family dinner already on the calendar Sam knew it would be the perfect day to pop the question. The only problem was the ring was still unfinished in Duluth and Sam was with Hannah in Minneapolis. Sam had guessed Hannah's ring size was a 9. However the jeweler suggested starting with a 8, later Hannah and future bridesmaid Rielly had been eyeing up rings and dropped a hint that Hannah was in fact a size 7. Frantically, Sam called the jeweler to change the size, making the ring able to be picked up the day before the family meal. With the ring in tow, Sam and Hannah drove together to Sam’s parents. Sam was acting a little strange, noticing Hannah’s nails, wondering about the origin of the word fiancé, and commenting on the picture perfect quality of the snow on the trees. When they arrived at Sam’s parents with Hannah distracted, Sam clued his parents in as to what he was hoping to do that day. With Karen and Steve in on the plan they waited for the Davidson family to arrive. Once everyone was there Karen quickly suggested a photo outside. Hannah’s heart all of a sudden started pounding. Everyone took family pictures, and then Karen suggested a picture of just Hannah and Sam. When the picture was done Hannah stepped away, but was told to turn back to Sam. When Hannah turned around Sam was fumbling in his jacket, quickly followed by a knee on the ground and a ring in his hand. No one can quite remember what happened next, but there was definitely some squeling and so much excitement. It was definitely a “Yes” and the ring fit perfectly.
