How We Met

Her story

We met while working at Target seven years ago. I, Kayla, was Enrique's supervisor (something that I love to share with everyone lol). I remember clocking on for my shift and noticing someone new *and cute* on check lane 8. I am very talkative and generally not shy, but for whatever reason, I couldn't find the courage in me to talk to Enrique. I was finally able to muster up the courage to spark up a conversation with the help of my friends/co-workers. Our first official outing was a spontaneous trip to Tpumps after work. I know it was a memorable moment for him because, one, when he asked me about going to Tpumps, he was only like half-serious; and two, I entered his car smelling straight like my mom's adobo. Seven years later, he is now eating my mom's adobo what seems like every three weeks and the rest is history.

How We Met

His Story

I had just started working at target and I had noticed this girl who was running around all the time like crazy with her long beautiful hair and her dark lipstick. I knew she was way out of my league so I didn't really try and pursue anything. I had noticed that we were consistently opening with each other and closing with each other and had almost the same schedule all the time. When I was done with my shift as a new hire, some of my colleagues would tell me that I needed to check in with Kayla before I left my training shift. Fast forward a few weeks and Kayla had gotten my number within a group chat that was made for all the people who hung out after work. I didn't think much of it until she texted me one morning before work asking if I'd like to get some coffee which I had immediately agreed upon. One day after a long tiring day at work Kayla had started talking about this beverage called Boba Milk Tea which I had barely heard of. What happened next was sort of the beginning to our forever.... I was lying in bed after work and told her "Let's go get some Boba then?" which she had responded "Pick me up in an hour." I was shocked to say the least as we drove off into the sunset and the rest was history. Our adventures were as simple as getting coffee before work, to making a road trip up north through Bend, OR Redmond, OR Portland, OR Seattle WA, then all the way back down through each and every city again. On the road is where we definitely gain a bigger appreciation as well as learn patience to be in each others company. There are plenty of ups and downs and left's and right's but they all happened for a reason and here we are 7 years later getting married. Thank you amor, for everything. Te amo. <3

Our Engagement Pt.1

03/22/18

This all started when I got a phone call for my birthday on August 15th, 2017 from Ate Khris wishing me a happy birthday but also telling me "if you don't have your passport, please get one since we're going on a double date to Barcelona." I laughed it off and thought nothing of it. A few weeks later she calls me again and asks if I've gotten my passport yet because we need to start buying tickets soon. I explained to her that I thought it was a joke but now understood she was being serious. As I was getting things ready to apply for my passport it came to me--what better time to propose to my beautiful girlfriend of 4 years at the time. I had brought this idea to my parents who immediately approved and were so happy for me. I had called Ate Khris letting her know what I was thinking, and she was just as ecstatic. I thought I had it all in the bag until it was time for me to ask Kayla's dad for her hand in marriage. I was nervous, afraid, excited, and anxious all at the same time. I had been putting it off until I finally decided to ask him when I had gotten off work early one day. Kayla's dad sat at one end of the sofa and I sat at the furthest end with my heart pounding, palms sweating, stuttering and he finally asked if I was okay. I told him I don't know how to ask this but i'm just going to say it. "I love your daughter very much, and we have been together now for 4 years and I would like to ask you if I can marry her?....." *crickets* The anticipation felt like hours as it was quiet for maybe 5 seconds. "Sure, yes that is fine." There was more, but I was so nervous that I forgot. We exchanged firm handshakes and hugs and I now had to ask her mom. Kayla still thought I was at work since I usually get off late which gave me enough time to go to her house and ask her mom before she got home. As soon as I walked into the house she was in the kitchen cooking and I said hello, and sat down in the kitchen as she said..... To Be Continued.....

Our Engagement Pt.2

03/22/18

"So you want to marry Kayla?" I was shocked because I then found out that Kayla's dad called her and let her know what I was there to ask her. We spoke about school and the importance that it meant to them. Exchanged hugs and the hardest part was now over. Everyone who needed to know, knew what I was planning and the hunt for the perfect ring and box was underway. My parents went with me as I didn't know how to do this or even where to start. After a few weekends and numerous hours of looking, I had finally found "The One". There it was, sitting in little black box as I looked at it every day. In awe as this was actually going to happen. If you don't know me by now I like to think I'm quite artistic and love to think outside of the box. I decided to make her a special box, hand carved, sewn, and stained by me personally. I worked late into the night as she thought I was sleeping, told her I was tired and wasn't going to come over because I secretly needed time to work on the box. It was finally done, in all its glory as I stared at it and was happy at what I had accomplished. As the time came closer, the anxiety and nerves were overwhelming. We flew from Oakland to Barcelona, Spain and landed on March 22nd. This was it, my time was here. In just a few hours after dinner my life was going to change forever. We arrived at our AirBnb and was overtaken by the beauty of this city and what it had to offer us. As we got ready for dinner and the time got closer I double, triple, even quadruple checked my pockets to ensure the ring was still there. After dinner we walked over to Font Màgica De Montjuïc to "take pictures". We had taken a photo and this was it. The time was now, I grabbed Kayla's hand as she smacked it away and said "let's go". I told her I seriously need to talk to her and started bringing the ring out. My voice was quivering as words started to come out.... we shared tears, we shared hugs, and we shared kisses as this was the beginning to our forever.
