This beautiful wooded park is a relaxing location to take a walk, hike, or nice drive throughout the five miles of forest. There is also Puget Sound beach access. Matthew and Laurel's first date was along the Owen Beach walkway on Valentines Day, and also throughout the lovely Point Defiance Rose Gardens at the start of the 5 mile drive.
Only three blocks away from Matthew's apartment, Wright Park is an interesting and unique place to take a run or go for a nice long walk. This 27 acre city park is home to a rich collection of more than 600 trees! Matthew strategically planned to live within walking distance in order to enjoy the beautiful trees as often as possible. There is a gorgeous arboretum open to the public during the day full of stunning plants and flowers. The park also features a serene pond, fountains, statues, and a fun playground.
If you're looking for great daytime and evening activities, Point Ruston is the perfect hotspot for everyone! Paddle-boarding, kayaking, and bike rentals are available during the day. There are a wide range of delicious waterfront restaurants to try -please visit Wildfin, it's Laurel's favorite eatery, and she HIGHLY recommends their Cougar Gold Fondue! Ice Cream Social is wonderful follow-up for dessert (: If you want to grab drinks afterwards there are quite a few pubs and places to try. If you simply want a lovely spot to walk a few miles along the Port of Tacoma and the continuing waterfront, consider taking a stroll along there as the sun sets.
If you have a full day to kill, think about making the 2 hour drive up to this gorgeous national park. If you've never been, Paradise is a perfect place to visit. There are a smattering of day hikes to choose from, depending on your difficulty preference. It's well worth the time it takes round trip, and the Paradise Inn is a lovely place to stop by and grab an ice cream and just take in the view!
An old fashioned and fabulous little theatre that primarily shows independent, foreign, and local films. Only a few blocks away from Matthew's apartment in Tacoma, this is another fun date hub.
