Flight

OAK (Oakland), SMF (Sacramento)

Oakland and Sacramento are great choices, with a drive time of 75 to 90 minutes to the cities of Napa/St. Helena. Those times assume no traffic, however, which is a rarity, especially on a Friday afternoon. Oakland is a bit closer and might have more frequent and less expensive flights. Sacramento is a bit easier to get in and out of and will probably have less traffic.

STS (Santa Rosa) & SFO (San Fransisco)

The Santa Rosa airport is closest to the cities of Napa/St. Helena, but it is small and has limited and expensive flights. San Francisco is 2 hours away although it will involve significantly more traffic than a drive from either Sacramento or Oakland.

Traveling within Napa Valley

Napa Valley is beautiful in August, which means there will be lots of tourists and lots of traffic. So don’t plan on getting anywhere in a hurry. Most restaurants, hotels and wineries have ample parking. But if you don’t want to drive, Lyft and Uber both operate in the valley. There are also several transportation companies that come highly recommended: California Wine Tours, Napa Valley Tours and Transportation, and Pure Luxury.

Traveling To and From the Dessert Reception and Wedding

Because people are staying all over the valley, we are not providing transportation for either event. Both the Silverado and V. Sattui have ample parking. But if you plan on drinking and don’t have a designated driver, please consider taking a transportation service such as Lyft or Uber.

General Hotel and Lodging Information

For people who haven’t booked lodging, here’s a list of some hotels, bed and breakfasts and resorts throughout Napa Valley. Although not exhaustive, it includes a range of price points, with the least expensive hotels listed first under each city. Better prices often are available through Expedia, TripAdvisor, Kayak, hotel points, AAA, military discounts, AARP, corporate rates, etc. You also can check out Airbnb, VRBO and other vacation sites. Residential rentals apparently are legal only in the city of Napa but enforcement seems lax. If possible, avoid locations that involve driving on the many narrow, winding, poorly lit roads in Napa Valley, including those crossing over to Sonoma.
