Mid-May 2021 Sarah accepted a “like” on hinge (a dating app) from a guy named Preston, who checked all her boxes and who was super handsome. She patiently “played hard to get”, waiting for him to message her, but after almost a week of being matched and not hearing from him, she decided to message him first. This is something she never did, but there was something about this guy that seemed different! After another 4 days of silence, Sarah gave up, thinking that he had met someone else or just wasn’t interested. And then…on May 21st Preston messaged her! She was so excited and had to “try” to play it cool. They texted for a few days and then on Sarah’s 29th birthday, Preston asked her out! They went on their first date on June 1st, at Parson’s Chicken, in Lincoln Park. They hit it off right away and both realized that they had met someone special. As the days turned to weeks and the weeks turned to months they continued to spend time together, meeting each other’s families and friends (we know there are many of you who haven’t met and we are working on that!), and continuing to get to know each other and fall in love!
On a Monday night at 4am Preston had the brilliant idea to borrow Navarro Farm for his proposal to Sarah. He and Sarah already had a game night planned down in New Lenox at his sister Michelle's house that following Saturday, so he figured out a way to get Sarah down to Frankfort Illinois before game night. He told her that the board of directors meeting for Navarro Farm was having a welcome dinner for all of the board members. Preston had recently joined the board of his sister's in-laws non-for-profit, so this white lie wasn't that much of a stretch, and Sarah didn't even question it. Thursday that week Preston went down to the south suburbs and with the help of his sister, niece and nephews decorated the barn to be the most magical, fairy-tale setting for his proposal to Sarah. Sarah threw a wrench in the plans when she informed him that her old co-worker had passed away and the funeral was that Saturday. Fortunately it was in Crete, Illinois, which is only 15 minutes down the road from the farm and his sister's house! Preston told Sarah that before they went to Michelle's they had to swing by the farm to help Michelle finish setting up for the dinner, and then they would go to her house and hang out with the kids prior to the board welcome dinner. Sarah luckily (for once in her life) just went along with the plans, didn't question anything and wasn't concerned about the logistics of the day. It helped she was a bit distracted with the funeral and seeing all of her old co-workers. When they got to the barn Preston told her it would only be a few minutes, so she didn't change out of her funeral outfit and he was still wearing his suit. They went inside the barn and Preston realizing he had gum in his mouth, was freaking out and put it down on the counter. In Sarah's mind they were just going to help Michelle for a few minutes and was appalled that he had just put his gum on the counter, like a 5 year old!!! Looking back she definitely feels bad for nagging at him and making him come back and throw it away!! They made their way up the stairs, and it took Sarah a solid 30 seconds to realize that this was a proposal, and not a board welcome dinner. Preston led her down a path of candles and rose petals, and in front of a beautiful balloon arch and backdrop he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him! She said "yes! yes! yes!!" They are excited to continue the wedding planning and celebrate with all of you in October!
