How We Met

A Little Bee Told Me

It all started when Rebecca decided she was going to start swiping--yes, swiping. She was going to make an effort to start dating and got on the dating app Bumble. For those who don't know what Bumble is, it is an app where people have profiles (similar to Facebook) showing pictures, interests, and answers to random 20 Qs. The woman is in charge of make the first move as a Queen Bee should. Eric and Rebecca matched due to the cute picture of Eric and a precious small dog, and Rebecca with her dazzling smile and knee high boots. The chat was minimal with talk of tacos and margs, a pic of a little dog in a yellow raincoat, and "I know where Marion is!" which led to a first date on December 11th 2019 at a holiday festive Undercroft bar in Bentonville. Both went into the date with a casual mindset of if this works great, if not, great! Eric showed up EARLY (yes, early--not like Eric early, actually early) looking so stylish in jeans and a vest. The conversation was easy and smooth like the tequila soda Eric was drinking. After 2 hours of covering topics from family, work, birthdays (You're a Libra too?!), hobbies, and other random topics, we bid our good byes both "drunk on something stronger than the drinks in the bar" back to our respective 4Runners ("You drive a 4Runner? Mine is that grey one over there"). A second date followed to Crystal Bridges and I bet you can fill in the rest.

How He Asked

He asked and she said "Are you serious?!" at least 25 times

A little over a year after the Corona Virus overtook our lives and flipped the world on its head, Eric and Rebecca decided it would be nice to get away for a weekend to the quirky little town of Eureka Springs. Not an extravagant trip--massages, food, walking and perousing the little shops. Rebecca was looking forward to a weekend away and quality time with Eric. Eric on the other hand had plans, big plans. On Saturday April 24th, 2021, Eric and Rebecca made their way through the winding Arkansas hills to Eureka Springs where they checked in to the Basin Hotel in downtown and moseyed their way to the spa for a relaxing massage. After a blissful relaxing hour, they grabbed small Bailey and strolled down Main Street, bouncing in and out of shops. Around 5PM, they grabbed a 6 pack of Corona beer and headed back to the hotel to sit on the deck over looking the busy street people watching and chatting. Conversation flowed from serious and thoughtful to light and casual. Eric went inside with Rebecca thinking nothing of it, coming back a short time later. They continued to talk when Eric finally had a break in the conversation they were having to get down on one knee. Rebecca was utterly shocked and surprised at the sight in front of her. She continued to say "Are you serious?!" at least 25 times, yet somehow did mange to answer Eric's question with a "YES!". To put this into context, Eric's sister, Emma, got married June 12th, 2021 and Rebecca had it in her head that an engagement would not happen before this event. This created the most surprising moment in Rebecca's life.
