The health of our family and friends is very important to us. To keep our loved ones as safe as possible, we had to make a few changes to our wedding day. We decided to still get married on our original date (2.20.21) with our immediate family only. Although it wasn't much like we had been planning for over a year, it was the most perfect day. But we are so excited to FINALLY celebrate with all of our friends and family on 2.19.22!!
Okay, wow! The proposal. A little over a year before Lane proposed, he moved across the country for an exciting job opportunity and we began our long distance relationship, 1,200 miles apart. Two weeks before he proposed I noticed some things were a little weird...with everyone! Well, mostly with Lane and my mom. Lane was ignoring me almost all week and my mom was really concerned about getting furniture in the backyard by the 17th! I had a feeling that maybe all of this was because something special was going to happen that Saturday, like maybe a proposal! Before I knew it, the weekend was getting closer and there was no way Lane was in Oklahoma. Friday came and went and I honestly completely forgot about the idea of Lane possibly proposing this weekend. Saturday morning I got up and got ready because Paige (Lane's sister) had ordered some cakeballs to take back to school with her. That morning I ditched my normal curling iron for a new one, changed up my everyday makeup and jewelry combination, to get ready for a family-friends birthday party I thought my mom and I were going to (another lie!). I waited upstairs for Paige and when the doorbell rang, I looked out the window and saw Paige by her car. Weird... Even with all of the weirdness with everyone, I never connected the dots with Paige coming by that morning and Lane possibly being in town. When I opened the door, Lane, my amazing boyfriend who was suppose to be 1,200 miles away, was standing on my front porch. Before I could even process how or why he was here, he took out a box and got down on one knee. He asked me to marry him and I said yes. Just thinking about this day still makes me smile. Thankfully I have some beautiful pictures to look back on, thanks to one of my best friends, Ricki Lee. We had brunch with our families and then, one of my favorite parts of that day, we FaceTimed my friends and other family members to tell them about the exciting news! -Tayte
When you live 1,357 miles away from your girlfriend making a proposal a surprise can definitely pose a bit of a problem. I was well aware that anytime one of us came to town that Tayte always had hopes of a proposal in the back of her mind. To make my proposal truly a surprise my whole trip to Edmond would need to be a surprise. Fortunately for me I'm a great liar and had accepted the fact that I'd have to lie to the person I want to spend my life with. In fact, I jumped at the chance to exploit Tayte's overly gullible demeanor and let her know that I was going to be out with friends one Friday night. In reality, I was packing my bags for OKC (my mom/sister had already scheduled a meet up with Tayte for some baked goodies where I would strike). Always one to commit to my role, I promptly ignored Tayte all night to sell the part. After arriving in town I hunkered down in a sushi restaurant (a place I was sure I wouldn't see her). Next morning it was off to Tayte's. After a last minute audible when my flaky photographer (Paige Serup) backed out on me, I met up with Ricki Lee in the parking lot of Life Church. Got some tips from Paige and Ricki on what to say. Promptly forgot all their tips. Ensured Tayte's parents knew I was coming to make sure Tayte answered the door. And headed to her place with no idea what I was going to say. I'm not sure exactly what I said but, unfortunately for Mr. and Mrs. McKay, she said yes. And here we are. -Lane
