The Beginning

July 2017

Darin and I met the summer of 2017 when I moved to Covington for an internship at a local church. We were introduced by our mutual friends at the church, but I think we both didn't really expect anything to happen between us. As the summer went on we never really talked after that first initial introduction, and we tease each other now saying that we were too scared to talk. However the truth is that neither of us was really thinking about having a relationship at that time, so we just didn't interact. Then, at the end of July the church's youth group took a week long trip to a retreat about two hours away. I went as a counselor and Darin went as a student. We quickly became best friends during that camp, but again neither of us really thought anything would become of it. About a month after the camp, and after my internship had ended I told Darin that I had decided to stay in Covington to complete the church's school of ministry, which is a two year course. God had called me to stay in the beginning of July before Darin and I were even friends. Soon after that announcement Darin declared his love for me, which I teased him for in best friend fashon, but very quickly afterwards told him that I loved him too. After that it was just accepted that we were a couple, but the only people who didn't really see it coming were us. All of our friends had called it months in advanced, so no one was too shocked by this turn of events.

The Proposal

December 16, 2018

While I knew it was coming I was still very pleasantly surprised by Darin's proposal. Our friend group which we have nicknamed the squad had decided to go to a movie after the Christmas play. When we got to church for the Christmas play our one friend informed me that she was unable to come to the movie because she had been called in to work and had to be there asap. So she left and that was that. After the play we went out to our friend's car who was designated to drive that night. When we were all in someone suggested we go to this movie theater that they new about in a town about two hours away where the tickets were only $1. It was late, but we all decided it sounded like fun so we started on our way. About an hour later we stopped at a gas station to grab some snacks, and when we got back in the car Darin suggested that I take my glasses off and lay my head on his lap so I could sleep a little the rest of the way there. I later was told that this was so I couldn't read the road signs and figure out where we were going. We finally get there and I get out of the car a little dazed, I take a quick look around and think to myself that this is the weirdest movie theater I've ever been too, then I get back in my car to grab my coat. When I come back out there is a lady walking towards me that I realize is actually the friend who told me she had to work. Confused, I look to Darin who stands there and smiles at me, I take another look around to realize that they've brought me to the place that we went on the youth retreat. I imedetly drop my coat and begin sobbing as I realize what this means. Darin takes me by the hand and leads me to the bench that we often sat on and had long talks. I take a seat and he sits beside me for a second before he gets down on one knee. Needless to say, I cried like a baby that night, but it was one of the best nights of my entire life.
