Due to the pandemic, Russell’s original proposal plans were ruined but nevertheless, he still managed to surprise Kyla. The campus of Johnson C. Smith University was closed to all visitors due to the pandemic but those who know Russell know when he puts his mind to something nothing stops him, he negotiated with campus security to allow us on campus, as this was the place we met. On April 23rd, 2020 he told Kyla he needed to go to get a transcript for a graduate program he was applying to, but really he was surprising Kyla, as she walked up the steps of Biddle hall he stopped and let her go ahead of him, by the time she turned around to see why he stopped he was near the bottom of the steps on one knee with the ring out asking her to marry him. Kyla said yes, and the few people standing around to see what was going on started cheering.
