We were sophomore's at Ohio University. My roommate and I wanted to move from a triple dorm room to a double, so we entered the room lottery in September, and matched to a double at Martzolff. One day, I was outside and talking with friends. Patrick was also outside, sitting on the bench, and offered a seat. We didn't talk much at first, but after a few weeks, we hit it off. I was dating someone else at the time, but Pat didn't care. He said "I'll wait." We became best friends and practically inseparable.
Patrick asked if I wanted to visit OU for my birthday and booked a hotel. I was in a terrible mood after a crappy week of work and not feeling the 2.5 hour drive to Athens, but we went anyway. We checked into the hotel and Pat asked if I wanted to go walk around up town. I agreed and really wanted to go to UniversiTEES for some new shirts. We shopped, then walked up Court Street for a bit. Pat asked if we could walk around campus so that he could take some pictures. I agreed because I love campus and it is truly beautiful. We were walking on College Green when I thought* I saw our good friend Matt. Pat tried his best to convince me that it wasn't him, and I agreed, "yeah, it's probably not him. Why would he be here anyway?" We walked up to get a picture of Cutler Hall (beautiful and iconic OU)... And I sat down on the bench. I'm not sure how he convinced me to get up and walk over to him, but when I did, he blew me away. He went on to slowly get down on one knee and say "this is the place we met and I fell in love with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" I was in shock. NO ONE SURPRISES ME. EVER. It took my brain a good 30 seconds to register what was happening.. I believe I even asked "are you f*cking serious right now?" but then I said "of course. yes. yes." It was then that MATT and Meredith walked over from behind the bushes! I knew it! I knew it was Matt, but he's lucky that Meredith was actually hiding so that the surprise wasn't ruined. (Love you guys!) Pat hired a photographer to capture everything (and luckily we had went to get t-shirts prior, because "Shirt Me" was said quite a few times while trying to get some nice pictures. It's like Pat was nervous or something!) We went on to celebrate at some of our favorite places in Athens - Jackie O's, Redbrick, The Pub, Tony's and more. It truly was the best day ever.
