How We Met

November, 2015

Trevon and I met through mutual friends at The University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut. I was on the women's rugby team and my Big on the team was a friend of his. After games and practice, the women's team would go to my Big's apartment to hang out. Trevon would be there often. One night, Trevon fell asleep on the floor during a movie night. He was snoring loudly and the whole team was cracking up at him. He woke up to all the laughing and eventually sat up and sat next to me. I thought he was cute and funny so I made the first move by tying the strings on his hoodie into a bow. He looked down and back up at me with a confused look on his face. He then untied them and I immediately tied them back with a smile. That night, we exchanged phone numbers so we could keep in touch. I was a sophomore, he was a senior and the rest is history.

The Proposal

June 16th, 2021 8:30 A.M

Trevon proposed on the beach in Palm Beach, Florida. It was our first full day in Palm Beach. Trevon told me that he and his father used to have this tradition when they went on vacation. They would wake up early, get some coffee and go to a beach to sit and watch the water in the morning. We continued this tradition on our first full day in Palm Beach. I may have been a bit cranky because I did not think we would be waking up at 7 A.M, but I was just happy to be with him in a new location ready for new adventures. We stop by Starbucks to get a coffee and walk across the street to the beach. This is when I start to wonder if something is wrong. As we walked down the beach I found multiple "good spots" to sit at for the view though none of them were good enough for Trevon so we kept walking. I didn't know what exactly he was looking for, but I went along with it. Further down the beach was a local woman taking pictures of the water with her camera. We briefly make eye contact and I smile at her thinking nothing of it. We finally find a rock several feet away from the woman taking pictures and I sit. In my head I'm thinking this rock is the same as all the other rocks with the same view as well, but whatever. For some reason though, he won't sit down. I ask him if he is alright and he says "...So I talked to your Dad..." That didn't answer my question and now I'm even more confused. I say "about what?" then there is a brief moment of silence and all of a sudden he gets down on his knee and pulls out the ring of my dreams and says "Will you marry me?" Once he gets down on his knee, the woman taking pictures of the view gets up and turns her attention to us and starts snapping pictures. Turns out he hired her (Gina) to be ready when he proposed so we would have professional pictures of the engagement. I burst into tears and put my hand out and replied "YES!" It all happened so fast, but I'll never forget all the time and care put into such a sweet and intimate proposal.
