Taylor and Travis met more than once before Travis was hired at REI where Taylor had been working. After they became coworkers, their love of music, travel, the outdoors, and food led them to develop a close friendship. After many backpacking trips, beach days, and day hikes, they decided that friendship just wasn't enough.
Traylor loves to travel. They have visited several national parks together and they traveled to Costa Rica early in their relationship, so when they started planning a trip to Japan, Travis knew he wanted to propose. They had already begun discussing marriage and rings and even toured a venue in, but he still wanted the proposal to be a surprise. He discussed his plans with their roommates, Hannah and Dean, as well as his family and coworkers. He was very cautious; he didn't want anyone to ruin the surprise. About a month before the trip, Taylor decided she wanted to propose. Knowing that it is unusual for women to propose, she wanted to capture the moment and booked a Japanese photographer and disguised the day as a "Photo Tour of Osaka Castle" during the second half of their trip. She ordered rings and a ring box and had them delivered to their house under Hannah's name, so that Travis wouldn't know. She told Hannah, her best friend Tricia, and her coworkers. Hannah, the one true double agent, kept her cool and didn't reveal either of their secrets. On their second day in Japan, while visiting Tokyo DisneySea, Travis sat next to Taylor in a beautiful caldera, and asked her to marry him. Taylor, shocked and thrilled, said yes! She then revealed her plan to propose. The photographer, Manu, graciously captured Taylor getting down on one knee and asking for Travis' hand in marriage. They both said yes!
