We met in October of 2022. Omar was living in a shared house with his dogs, Max and Anastasia. I had just moved to Texas with my dog, Bowie, and shortly after took in two abandoned kittens, Cleo and Phantom. Omar was NOT a fan of cats at that time, and on our third date, he let me know he was very allergic. I told him he could leave! (Omar would now like to add that he loves his cats.) We connected over dreams of one day owning acres of land and starting a dog rescue. We found a shared love for pasta, country music, and pickup trucks. In January of 2023, I adopted a scared little dog who was about to be euthanized from the San Antonio animal shelter. I named the little girl Talley, and Talley trusted no one. I could see Omar fall in love the moment he saw her. That was when I knew that Omar was the best kind of man - devoted, protective, and kind. With time and love, Talley came out of her shell. Probably a little too much. After only four months of dating, Omar and I decided to move in together (insane). For two months; us, four dogs, and two cats were crammed inside my little townhome while we searched for a house to rent (insane). During this time, Omar was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal after serving eight years. Eventually, we found that house to rent, and off we went. Life was good. We began attending a nearby church and going to my parents’ house to watch football on Sundays. We found an orange kitten on the side of the road with a broken leg, and named him Captain. We joined a bible study group and learned how to trap stray dogs for rescues. Then, in August of 2023, our hearts broke. Our beautiful Anastasia, La Tontina Pechocha, passed away suddenly due to congestive heart failure. She was only six years old. Her absence in our lives was painfully loud. We began to talk a lot about what was important in our lives and what wasn't. A few months later, a dog with Anastasia’s eyes needed our help, and we named him Ripple (Sir Puppy of Dog). In October of 2023, after a year of dating (insane), Omar surprised me and got down on one knee in the gazebo of the Japanese Tea Gardens. I said "holy shit, really?" And then I said yes. Since then, we’ve fostered some dogs, gone on lots of camping adventures, and had plenty of bonfires. Omar began his degree program and started a business. I began attending a dog training school. Together, we’ve begun working towards our dreams and creating a little found family here in Texas. The last three years have been the brightest of my life, and I thank God for what we have.
