One night in October Taylor jokingly said to me, "You know what I could go for right now? Dinner at Ohana in Disney World." I completely agreed, since that is my favorite restaurant, but I sadly mentioned how we probably weren't going to be able to go back to Disney for a while. And oh how wrong I was! Taylor woke me up really early the next morning and told me that we weren't going to work, but were flying to Disney World for the Halloween Party instead. It was really sweet because Disney holds a very special place in my heart and Taylor knew that I had never been to Disney World during Halloween time. All of our friends and family were in on the surprise and even helped to get my costume together for the trip. And in all of Taylor's excitement in finally surprising me, he accidentally let it slip that his family pitched in for my costume and that it was an early "engagement present." ....I pretended like I didn't hear that last part though ;) We flew to Orlando a few hours later and had that dinner at Ohana that Taylor had joked about the night before. The next day we went to the Magic Kingdom for the Halloween Party dressed as Mary Poppins and Bert. Later that night we were waiting for the parade to start and decided to take some pictures of us dressed up in our costumes in front of the castle. While we were taking a couple of photos, Taylor got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. That day was the best day of my life and I couldn't be more excited to get to spend the rest of my life with him!
I have always been a romantic at heart and I knew I wanted the day I proposed to be something extra special. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a planner and I am terrible at keeping secrets, and pulling off this proposal was going to take both! With buying and hiding a ring to arranging for her to be off of work with ninja like sneakiness, it is safe to say I felt a bit overwhelmed! But somehow it all came together. The next step was just to figure out how I was going to pop the question. After thinking about Makenzie and what makes her happy, I thought it should involve three things: it should be a surprise, involve travel, and include Disney! Finally after months of planning and having to bite my tongue, the morning came. We woke up and I told her to forget about work and pack her bags because we were going to Disney World! If she is telling you this story she would undoubtedly mention how I might have slightly said something about an engagement that morning… but what can I say, it was 4 am and I had been keeping this secret for 7 months! The whole trip was honestly surreal. Getting to dress up as Mary Poppins and Bert for the Halloween Party and proposing in front of the castle was obviously the highlight. But just knowing for the first time that I would OFFICIALLY be spending the rest of my life with this woman is an indescribable feeling I still get overwhelmed with to this day.
