Great Sand Dunes National Park
If you have time for a day trip, Great Sand Dunes National Park is well worth the drive. With the tallest dunes in North America, stunning mountain backdrops, and a shallow creek for splashing or relaxing, it’s a surreal and unforgettable landscape. Great for hiking, sandboarding, or simply soaking in the views! Robert & Taylor visited the Great Sand Dune National Park in 2023 and sandboarded on the dunes!
Venable Creek Trail
For a peaceful mountain escape, Venable Creek Trail offers beautiful forest scenery, wildflowers, and the soothing sounds of a flowing creek. It’s a great option for a moderate hike and a quiet moment in nature during the wedding weekend. For a shorter hike option, you can turn around at the stunning Venable Falls, about 2.5 miles up the Venable Trail, or at Venables Lakes, another 2 miles or so farther.
Smokey Jack Observatory
Experience the magic of the night sky at Smokey Jack Observatory in Westcliffe, Colorado. One of the state’s only International Dark Sky Communities.
