Coffee will always be special for us. We had our first date at a cafe in Valparaiso, Uptown Cafe, in December 2022. Lara has never let me forget how she judged the drink I had, an iced vanilla latte. We met around noon on that frigid Saturday. The date lasted well into the night as we went for pizza at around 4pm because Uptown would be closing soon. As we departed Uptown for a shared favorite of ours, Tomato Bar, something felt different for both of us. We spent the next five hours talking as we sat inches a part at the bar of the restaurant. When we went to the parking lot, we talked for another thirty minutes longer in the freezing cold. Both of us standing in the parking lot with our oversized parkas on. We agreed to see each other the next day where we spent over eight hours just talking. There was never a moment of awkwardness or a second spent checking the time. We just enjoyed each other's company, and during our time together, that has never changed. About two months into dating, we found ourselves at a wedding in Indianapolis for Lara's cousin. That is when we fell in love. We spent hours dancing and laughing as if nothing else in the world mattered. Dancing at weddings has become a common practice for us. We always find ourselves on the dance floor (unless country music is playing). As we prepare for our own wedding, that has come full circle. The moment we knew this is it occurred on that February night in Indianapolis as we danced like we were the only two people in the world.
