Taylor and I actually go way back. It wasn’t until high school though, that small interactions would turn into something more. Taylor and I would start seeing each other to and from classes and at school events. Eventually, passing glances would turn into flirty ones. Then, my mom bought a treadmill from Richie and sent me over to pick it up. I wanted so badly to say something and I could tell she did too. Thankfully, one of Taylor’s friends dared her to message me one night shortly after this. I remember seeing her name pop up on my phone and feeling my heart beating a thousand miles an hour, but I managed to respond and our relationship would begin. I don’t think I have ever met a person who was so much like me, yet so different in her own beautifully unique ways. But, of course, I screwed it up. I didn’t want this relationship to get ruined by distance and I didn’t want to lose the best friend that I had ever had. I made the stupid decision to end things with Taylor. The daily contact began to fade, and it wasn’t until I came home for Christmas break and we ran into each other at a soccer game that the spark we had would be rekindled. Our relationship would rapidly strengthen and be tested by the distance between us, but days, weeks, and months would turn into years; and Taylor would eventually join me at Ole Miss. This is where I would truly see her strength and understand how much I needed her in my life. She helped me through the times that I felt like giving up and moving home. I would eventually finish at Ole Miss collecting a degree and two dogs along the way. Taylor is crazy, outgoing, and yes even aggravating at times, but she is also the most beautiful, loving, and caring person I could have ever asked for and, in every sense of the word, she is perfect. So, that is the story of how a treadmill turned into a marriage. P.S. Thanks mom for buying that thing! Even though I don’t think we even used it…
Hi! It’s me, Presley, Holden’s sister. I’m narrating the story of their proposal because let's be honest, this thing wouldn’t have gone off without me. Holden casually slips into conversation one phone call that he wants to propose to Taylor… in 3 weeks. Does he have a ring? No. Does he have a plan? Not really. But he was determined! The hardest part was keeping everything from Taylor; one because she’s my best friend and two because she’s very nosey. (Sorry Tay!) From separate states we came up with ideas and made plans… and then changed them again and again. We convinced Taylor that we were having a crawfish boil at my dad’s house to celebrate Easter early since I wasn’t going to be home. Dad and I spent the whole day preparing the backyard. That next morning we went out and got the crawfish, snacks, and decorations. It was a nightmare trying to find a helium tank for balloons and it turned into Taylor’s mom, my granny, and me in an assembly line of helium tank, balloon tier, and string tier. The whole time we are trying to put up the decorations Holden is keeping us updated on their arrival. He even made Taylor go to Walmart because my dad “forgot” lemons to buy us more time to decorate and get everyone there. So, here we are, both our families waiting with anticipation on the back deck (including Reagan who we were able to sneak down from Starkville). I had the most stressful job of convincing Tay to come upstairs and “help me fix my hair” so that Holden could get outside. Here I am making small talk and trying not to look suspicious. Finally, I lead Taylor outside and there’s Holden and our families standing on the decorated deck. In classic Taylor fashion, she keeps asking what is going on and I have to physically push her out the door! I’m pretty sure we all cried watching Holden get down on one knee and ask his best friend to spend the rest of her life with him. Then we popped little confetti cannons and champagne! Congrats y’all! love you so much!
