First Met It was a sunny day in Orange County. I was about to go to Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights until I saw the price of admission that gave me pause. While debating if I should go or not, another group of friends invited me to a get together at a house, and I decided to save the money and to go to this get together instead. As I walked into the backyard with a fresh 30 rack of Natty Light I started to hand out beers to my fraternity brothers like hungry goldfish. That is where I saw a cute girl laying on a turtle floaty in the pool. I had no idea that I had just laid eyes for the first time on my future wife. First Dates We spent our first dates doing what you would expect two college students to do by going to the local pizza shops and gastro pubs around the area. For our second date we went on a romantic night at a mini-golf course, and even though I tried to throw the game to her I still ended up winning by a stroke. Alana still doesn’t believe that I was trying to throw the game to this day but who are you going to believe? I still have that score card with me in my desk. Proposal Fast forward 6 and half years later and I wake up early to shower before going on a hike at The Dish. Alana thought that was odd but didn’t think too much of it, thank god. Her whole family had flown down to the Bay to surprise Alana and had smartly turned off their “find my friends” so Alana couldn’t see their location, (which she did try to check before going on the hike). As we were walking I held my composure well and if Alana asked me “What are you thinking about” I would say “sorry, I just hope the Niners beat the Rams on Monday.” I was not thinking about the football game. During our hike I talked about how I loved that my parents had a spot that you could point to for where they got engaged, which is the Blue Bayou restaurant in Disneyland, and then I pointed to a tree that I had always pictured when hearing the story about her dad sitting under a tree when he decided to propose to her mom. Walking towards what would be “our spot” a deer passed by us as a drone hovered above, my friend Ryan was ready to film the big moment and we would later find out that was technically a felony, so thanks Ryan! I got on one knee and asked Alana to make me the happiest man in the world and be my wife, and she said yes! She didn’t see it coming. As we ran down the final part of the hike friends and family cheered for us at the bottom. Alana thought it was just my family until she heard her dad’s booming “woohoo” and realized her whole family was there. It was one of the best days of my life.
